Wildlife and conservation students: Are you tired of applying for jobs

The Fund for Animals is a national animal protection nonprofit
organization founded in 1967 by author and humanitarian Cleveland Amory.
The Fund advocates for the protection of wildlife and domestic animals
from cruelty and exploitation through enforcement/legislative actions,
litigation, investigations, advocacy campaigns, public awareness, and
hands-on care. The Fund has a full-time paid staff of 49 and an annual
budget of $7 million. Besides its advocacy work, The Fund also operates
the 1,620-acre Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison, Texas; a Wildlife
Rehabilitation Center in Ramona, California; a Rabbit Sanctuary in
Simpsonville, South Carolina; and a Spay and Neuter Clinic for dogs and

Duties:

  • Research wildlife studies, particularly those related to white-tailed
    deer, to assist with Fund campaigns and advocacy work.
  • Monitor wildlife management journals and apprise Fund staff of relevant
    studies, developments, and debates in the scientific community.
  • Submit written comments and public testimony on behalf of The Fund.
  • Represent The Fund at agency meetings, public hearings, and other
    venues on wildlife issues.
  • Resource to staff, grassroots groups, and Fund members on wildlife issues.
  • Participate in planning, researching, and writing articles and reports
    for Fund publications.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in wildlife biology, conservation, or related field
    required; Ph.D. preferred.
  • Prior experience with animal protection/rights issues and knowledge of
    white-tailed deer, black bears, migratory birds, and/or furbearing
    species strongly recommended.
  • Commitment to animal protection/antihunting philosophy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work as
    part of a team.
  • Must be willing to relocate; job is in The Fund's national campaign
    office in Silver Spring, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C.


Reports To: President and National Director


Compensation: Open, D.O.E.; excellent benefits.
