Position Overview

EPG is an interdisciplinary environmental planning and consulting firm seeking a motivated Wildlife Biologist for our Portland, OR office.

Primary duties include coordination with state wildlife agencies and federal land management agencies, field studies and protocol surveys, habitat assessments, preparation of technical reports in support of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, and oversight of wildlife biology survey staff. 

Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Have a Bachelors or Masters degree in wildlife biology, zoology, ecology, botany, range science, or similar field of study
  • 5-10+ years of field experience within the Pacific Northwest region (Oregon, Washington, Idaho and northern Nevada)
  • Experience conducting detection surveys or other wildlife/plant field inventories, and data collection using Global Positioning System units
  • Ability to hike up to 10 miles per day in variable terrain and weather conditions
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 40 pounds
  • Have good team-working skills, communication skills, and a strong work ethic

Candidates must also:

  • Have working knowledge of environmental regulations and laws including NEPA, the Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, and experience working with state wildlife agencies and federal land management agencies including the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and state Departments of Fish and Wildlife in the Pacific Northwest (ODFW, WDFW, IDFG)
  • Specialized experience working with species including Washington Ground Squirrel, Northern Spotted Owl, Marbled Murrelet, Sage Grouse, Streaked Horned Lark and/or Oregon Spotted Frog is desired
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Washington Department of Transportation Oregon Department of Transportation Biological Assessment Author Certification preferred
