Description

~ Appalachian Headwaters is a nonprofit organization focused on restoration of native ecosystems and environmental education in central Appalachia. Headwaters currently manages thousands of acres mined land restoration projects and other pollinator habitat restoration projects in central Appalachia. ~

Position Overview

We have recently formed the Appalachian Pollinator Center, an educational outreach and research about pollinator health and habitat. Headwaters also manages the Appalachian Beekeeping Collective (ABC), a beekeeper training and support program focused on honey bees. The Native Plant Horticulturist will help with Headwaters’ native plant horticulture program in support of these programs.

Headwaters started its native plant nursery in 2018 to grow native plants and seeds for its mined land restoration, environmental education, and pollinator gardens. Planting nursery stock from seed collected from central Appalachia will contribute to success of our projects. We have two greenhouses, a shade house, and hundreds of acres of open growing space across two sites.
