Description

Background:


The Haw River Program, (HARP), located in Brown Summit, North Carolina
is seeking dedicated and energetic outdoor education enthusiasts to become
HARP instructors. HARP offers visiting students 1-day experiences up to
5-day/4-night residential stays. Our "classrooms" include 220 wooded acres,
pristine wetlands, a 6-acre lake, and the headwaters of the Haw River.


Our Mission Statement:


The Haw River Program is committed to immersing students in an engaging,
informative, entertaining, and inspiring curriculum that nurtures a lifelong respect
for the relationships within our natural environment.


Duties:


In addition to teaching classes, HARP instructors will:

  • Develop and implement classes that adhere to HARP's mission statement.
  • Maintain trails and classroom materials.
  • Assist with special projects, outreach programs, and participate in some
    evening/weekend activities.

Qualifications:


HARP's requirements for employment are as follows:

  • BA/BS in related field is preferred. Interns must be working towards an
    undergraduate degree.
  • Experience with and an enthusiasm for working with people of all ages in
    an outdoor setting.
  • Teaching and facilitation skills.
  • Confirmed knowledge of a variety of outdoor science activities and skills.
  • Experience with team building and group dynamic activities.
  • Desire to become a member of a shared working and living environment.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Flexibility.
  • Creativity.
  • Sense of humor.


Compensation:


Should you be fortunate enough to be deemed worthy of the title of "HARP
Instructor," your employment here will include:

  • Salary based on experience ($200 to $250 per week).
  • Housing (if needed, in a private, motel-style room).
  • Meals (when groups are visiting).
  • Outdoor education training. Subject areas include Anthropology,
    Astronomy, Botany, Geology, History, Orienteering, Tracking, Wetlands
    Ecology, and Zoology.
  • Laundry facilities available on-site.
  • Free parking.
