Position Overview

Green Hammer is seeking a highly-organized individual with a strong customer service orientation to join our unified design-build team as a Project Engineer. The Project Engineer is responsible for procurement of materials and subcontracts throughout all phases of Green Hammer’s Unified Design Build Process.

The Project Engineer streamlines communications within the project team, including design consultants, trade partners and vendors, to keep the project moving on time and on budget. The Project Engineer engages in cost estimating, scheduling, project coordination, administering project standards and policies, materials and subcontract procurement, material and equipment selection, cost and schedule control, and quality management.

Responsibilities

  • Actively supports and adheres to the company safety policies
  • Develops an understanding of the prime contract, subcontracts, purchase order agreements, and allowance items
  • Develops a procurement schedule and integrates it with the project calendar
  • Prepares take-offs and generates RFP's for trade partners/vendor procurement
  • Compiles trade partners and vendor proposal for team review
  • Reviews contract documents and reconciles against proposals
  • Sources project materials, secures material pricing, solicits and reviews trade partners’ bids to support contract development from design development through the final budget
  • Assists Project Managers in qualifying new trade partners, securing necessary agreements and insurance documents and providing trade partners’ orientation about Green Hammer expectations
  • Provides Lead Construction Manager purchasing trends across all projects, identifying opportunities to negotiate pricing and to improve project margins
  • Responds to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders
  • Issues subcontract agreements and purchase orders
  • Drafts and issues project policies
  • Solicits and reviews submittals for compliance with contract documents and third party standards
  • Reviews and delegates requests for information (RFI's) to appropriate team members
  • Communicates schedule changes to trade partners
  • Resolves material and trade partners’ delays that could affect project delivery in collaboration with Superintendent
  • Secures trade partners’ change orders, and drafts owner change orders for Project Manager approval
  • Directs and oversees the trade partners’ payment application process; ensures that payment applications are submitted in the correct form and within expected billing schedule and assists Accounting in overall payment process with trade partners
  • Assists the Project Team in administering client specific programs, such as Net Zero Energy and Water, LEED, Earth Advantage, Passive House, etc. Ensures compliance with standard of all material, equipment and construction methods
  • Presents procedures, rules and regulations to those involved in the project; maintains a safe and productive environment through enforcing procedures
  • Maintains project integrity and reputation through compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Attends team and key client meetings, as needed and prepares meeting minutes
  • Provides administrative and scheduling support to the Lead Construction Manager
  • Prepares weekly progress reports to clients
  • Compiles close-out requirements, including owner's manual, warranties


Qualifications

  • College degree preferred in construction/architecture/engineering or equivalent experience
  • Three to five years of experience working in the construction field
  • Demonstrated proficiency and dedication to sustainable design and construction, and building science, including a familiarity with sustainable building products and practices and third party certifications
  • Ability to understand plans, financial projections and other related project management documents
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Project management and supervision skills
  • Decision making ability and leadership skills
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Overall excellent computer literacy
  • Experience with BIM/CAD preferred
  • Willingness to work as part of a unified team and engage in group process
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Sustainable/Energy Efficiency Training preferred but not required
