Position Overview

The position will be located at the Water Research Center (WRC) located onsite at Georgia Power’s Plant Bowen coal-fired power plant near Cartersville, GA but duties will include the management of R&D projects at other locations. Duties will include analyses of test data, preparation of detailed reports, presentation of results, and management of technicians conducting tests programs.

The candidate will also be actively involved in business development, marketing, and proposal development activities. The incumbent will have latitude and discretion in development of a sustainable water/ wastewater R&D program.

Responsibilities

  • Will serve as a Principal Investigator and function as a key member of the senior staff, contributing to the development of a strategic vision and the synthesis and execution of programs in industrial/utility wastewater research.
  • Will be responsible for the design, operation, and evaluation of systems applied to treat industrial/utility wastewaters, including flue gas desulfurization (FGD) and other water streams associated with steam power boilers, oil and gas (such as produced and flowback waters).
  • Analyze test data, preparation of detailed reports, presentation of results, and management of technicians conducting tests programs.
  • Will be actively involved in business development, marketing proposal development activities.
  • Will have latitude and discretion in development a sustainable water/ wastewater R&D program.

Qualifications

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering or other related scientific discipline required.
  • 5+ year experience in the design, operation, and/or testing of wastewater treatment systems in an industrial/utility application (i.e. Power Generation, Oil & Gas, etc.).
  • Knowledge of the theory and operational concerns associated with wastewater management and physical/chemical treatment strategies/technologies for metals and solids removal.
  • Ability to work in a power plant environment and maintain strong working relationships with plant management, operations, and maintenance personnel.
  • Proven good personal safety record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional data analysis skills that can draw conclusions from test data and clearly express them to a vast of array of stakeholders (vendors, utility personnel, academic community, etc.) using an array of communication mediums (presentations, email, peer reviewed articles, magazine articles, and technical reports).
  • Experience developing written cost proposals to potential clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to make clear, effective presentations concerning the objectives and accomplishments of the Water Research Center (WRC) and Southern Research’s Industrial/Utility Water & Solids business to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience preparing test plans and leading teams to meet testing objectives.
  • Ability to travel at least 20% of the time.

Preferred / Desired Qualifications:

  • M.S degree or higher in an Engineering or Scientific related discipline.
  • Knowledge of the theory and operational concerns associated with wastewater management and treatment strategies/technologies, in physcial/chemical treatment in addition to one or more of the following areas: zero-liquid discharge (ZLD), biological, and membrane systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare high-caliber technical manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn various technical testing procedures and associated measurement equipment.
