Position Overview

The University of Central Missouri is seeking an Assistant Professor of Agronomy - tenure track. This is a full time 9-month teaching position.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to, courses in soil fertility management, field crop management, pasture forages management, and agriculture sprays and chemicals.
  • In addition to teaching, develop a research program as well as advise agronomy students, supervise internships, serve on university committees, and participate in curriculum revision as needed.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in Agronomy or related area from an accredited institution. ABD will be considered.
  • Computer Skills Word-Processing, Presentation.

Experience:

Required:

  • Coursework demonstrating knowledge of agronomy and related areas (e.g., crop science, plant science, soil science).
  • Evidence of teaching experience with undergraduate courses in the agronomy area.
  • Demonstration of clear written and oral communication skills.
  • Documented commitment to assessing and developing student learning outcomes and to the use of instructional technology in the learning process.
  • Ability to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred:

  • Evidence and desire to coordinate and perform annual crop production plots for corn and soybeans and other regionally important crops on the university farms.
  • Development of a research program that results in peer-reviewed publications and non-peer reviewed industry publications. Use of undergraduate students and masters degree students in the research program is encouraged.
  • Coursework or experience demonstrating knowledge of global positioning system based applications in precision farming (i.e. field mapping, soil sampling, tractor guidance, crop scouting, variable rate application, etc) used in crop production.
  • Desire to develop and teach agronomy courses for on-line instruction.
  • Experience using instructional multimedia in the classroom (e.g. iClicker, Blackboard, etc.).

Special Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Communication skills, including oral, written, and/or nonverbal.
  • Knowledge of a University environment preferred.
  • Human Relations/Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Excellent collaborative skills.
  • Competency in instructional technology.
