Position Overview

Implement land and water conservation projects/programs that inspire landowners and local communities to protect our Driftless landscape. Responsibilities include landowner assistance, site assessments, mapping, land project database management, grant writing and management (e.g., financial oversight), real estate due diligence and project management.

  • Position Status - Part- to Full-time
  • Reports to - Executive Director

Responsibilities

Conservation Programs & Project Management:

  • Conduct site assessments and natural resource inventories;
  • Aassist with drafting and negotiating conservation easements, contracts, options, and purchase and sale agreements;
  • Arrange appraisals, surveys, title and legal review and environmental assessments;
  • Produce baseline documentation reports;
  • Prepare reports and provide regular updates to the executive director and land conservation committee;
  • Implement land management and easement acquisition grants; and
  • Maintain grant tracking systems.

Conservation Easement Stewardship:

  • Conduct annual and periodic monitoring site visits;
  • Assist with easement research and respond to requests from easement landowners for approvals, notice responses, amendments, etc.;
  • Update our landowner database – Landscape; and
  • Assist with archiving/record-keeping.

Cartography:

  • Produce project maps utilizing GIS applications and GPS equipment for conservation projects, baseline documentation reports, land management plans, and other assignments as requested.

Outreach & Community Relations:

  • Engage community members, conservation partners and landowners to promote land protection and restoration projects and programs;
  • Facilitate compliance of conservation easements, USDA programs and resource best management practices; and
  • Develop and maintain meaningful contacts and relationships with landowners and community members.

Compensation: Part-time to Full-time position ($32,000- $36,500 rate or salary) including basic benefits (e.g., vacation pay, compensatory time, sick leave, etc.) described in the Driftless Area Land Conservancy Personnel Policy Manual. Compensation based on experience. No health insurance but stipend provided.
