Assistant Ranch Manager

Position Overview

Grimmway Farms is currently seeking an Assistant Ranch Manager to assist the Ranch Manager in the farming operations in Bakersfield farming areas. 

Responsibilities

• Assist Ranch Manager in all aspects of farming conventional and/or organic crops in the Bakersfield area.  
• Responsibilities include management and supervision, with hands-on involvement, all farming activities, including irrigation system management, land preparation, planting, fertilization, pesticide applications and harvesting. 
• Responsible for collection and submission of production data and any other required crop information. 
• Help plan efficient use of labor force and maintain company’s quality and quantity standards for finished product. 
• Ensure compliance with all labor laws, food safety regulations, company policy and workers’ safety.
• Interact with other Department Managers to facilitate coordination of work in the Bakersfield or surrounding area.
• All other duties as directed by Ranch Manager.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in a related major preferred but not required in lieu of direct experience.
• Individual will have farm management (or related industry) experience including the supervision of labor and direct involvement in the business side of the industry.
• The successful candidate must have strong communication skills, be a self-starter and have ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees.
• Must demonstrate strong work ethic with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be computer literate. Must be available to work weekends as required.
• Position requires employee to work and travel routinely throughout all Bakersfield farming areas.
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record.
• Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen, physical, and functional capacity evaluation.

Physical Requirements:

• Continuous use of both hands; including grasping, pulling and pushing.
• Sight, hearing, lifting, standing, climbing stairways, walking and balancing both feet on even and uneven surfaces, bending, twisting, crawling, stooping, kneeling, reaching forward, reaching overhead, reaching below shoulder, wrist turning, neck turning. 
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
