Description

~ With more than 30 years of on-the-ground experience, The Freshwater Trust is the largest restoration-focused organization in the Pacific Northwest, and the second largest conservation group based in Oregon and a nonprofit leader in stream and river restoration. ~

The organization is headquartered in Portland, OR, with satellite offices in Boise, ID, Ashland, OR, and Sacramento, CA.

The Freshwater Trust ascribes to "quantified conservation," an approach that allows them to ensure their actions translate directly to outcomes.

Moving well beyond counting the number of trees they plant alongside a river, The Freshwater Trust scientists use advanced technology to establish site-specific metrics (i.e. how much solar energy will be blocked by those trees, keeping the water temperature appropriate for wildlife, or how much runoff is absorbed by the trees, keeping the water clean), ultimately figuring out how and where their work creates the largest overall benefit for all of our freshwater resources, our wildlife, and our communities.

Quantifying the outcomes of conservation also allows integration of the economy with the environment. It turns conservation into a sound investment opportunity, allowing investors to target river projects with the greatest impact and grant funders to purchase actual outcomes. Ensuring a future with clean, healthy rivers requires understanding the outcomes of our actions and staying adamant about achieving results.
