The Department of Entomology serves undergraduates at Rutgers University-New Brunswick (RU-NB) and SEBS by offering a broad selection of courses related to the study of insects and related arthropods. Position Overview

The Department of Entomology at Rutgers University invites applications for a full-time, 10-month non-tenure track (NTT) faculty position at the Assistant Teaching Professor level. The appointment will have an emphasis on teaching and coordinating courses in Entomology for both entomology and non-entomology majors enrolled in the Entomology, Ecology, Plant Sciences, Biology, or Forensic Sciences Programs. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester, with possible course releases allowing time for administrative duties.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be required to maintain a rigorous and robust teaching program in Entomology for both entomology and non-entomology majors enrolled in the Entomology, Ecology, Plant Sciences, Biology, or Forensic Sciences Programs and utilize recognized best practice for science education, including active and experiential learning pedagogies.
  • He/she will be required to teach Forensic Entomology (Spring), How to Get Away With Murder (Spring), Insect Biology (Fall), Insect Structure & Function I (Fall), World of Insects (Spring & Fall) and develop online educational opportunities for these courses.
  • In addition, the successful candidate will be required to perform the duties of Entomology Undergraduate Program Director, and will have the opportunity to pursue internal or external funding, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and mentor undergraduate/graduate students in independent projects related to entomology. Participation in departmental and University committees and undergraduate and graduate curriculum development is expected.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • A Ph.D. in Entomology or related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses is required. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills are desired.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Cognizance of general safety requirements and procedures related to safe handling of biological and chemical materials.
