Crosby Hop Farm is located in Oregon’s beautiful and lush Willamette Valley in Woodburn, Oregon. Nestled between the Cascade Mountains and the Oregon Coast, with its temperate climate, the valley is an ideal hop-growing environment, producing some of the finest flavor and aroma hops in the world.

The Farm markets its uniquely processed hop products direct to craft brewers, home brewers, distributors and beer enthusiasts alike around the globe. Crosby Hop Farm’s sustainable farming methods, along with its meticulous processing techniques, capture the essence of each hop flower, an essential ingredient for producing craft beer.

Position Overview

The Director of Operations translates strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth as well as goal setting, performance management and annual planning for the Operations group. Overseeing operations and employee productivity, the Director of Operations is responsible for ensuring organizational outcomes are met. The position may require long hours and weekend work.

Crosby Hop Farm is located in the Portland suburb of Woodburn, Oregon, 30 miles south of downtown Portland. This position is available immediately.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Warehouse, Shipping and Receiving.
  • Production Operations.
  • Inventory and Systems Management.

Specific Duties:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management for Operations at Crosby Hop Farm.
  • Responsible for driving operational excellence to achieve and surpass profitability and business goals and objectives.
  • Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on Operations.
  • Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel designed to accommodate the growth objectives of the company.
  • Motivate and lead high performance teams.
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within Operations.
  • Safety is a condition of employment. Advocating and providing a safe work environment for all operations employees as well as enforcing that all safety rules are followed.

Oversight of Direct Reports:

  • Direct reports include Production Supervisor, Operations Supervisor and Inventory & Systems Manager.
  • The Director of Operations is responsible for the leadership, managerial responsibilities, and accountability (LMA) for the performance of CHF operations as well as for the training and development of all direct reports.
  • The position also includes designing and executing Accountability Matrices (Organizational structure with high level Roles/Responsibilities defined).
  • LMA responsibilities will include regular check ins with direct reports, coaching and career guidance (as appropriate) for direct reports, documented People Analyzer or other standardized performance evaluations, hire and fire decisions for top level managers and hire/fire “veto” power for all personnel within Operations for which Director of Operations is responsible.

Specific Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Member of the Executive Committee actively participating in setting the vision and strategy of the company with other EC members.
  • Budget preparation, accountability, and reconciliation for Operations.
  • Production and Storage Capacity to meet market demand as defined by the Executive Committee and Outside Sales teams.
  • Oversee remote locations as applicable.
  • Ensuring strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, oversight of supplier and vendor agreements.
  • Empowering cross-functional and departmental teams to design and implement processes in a continuous improvement fashion with a consistent regard to increasing internal and external customer value and eliminating waste.
  • Maintaining an open mind personally and departmentally regarding new technologies and innovation that may produce greater value for CHF, its customers, and stakeholders.
  • Be a strong and honorable representative of CHF in the community and the world at large, both within the craft brewery industry, and in general.
  • Lead first with CHF core values and culture in all aspects of the business and decision-making.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor degree.
  • A master’s degree is highly desirable.
  • He/she must have 10 or more years experience as a director or manager of operations; excellent leadership and organization skills; outstanding communication and people skills; a proven track record of continuous improvement/lean manufacturing experience; and must demonstrate a track record of execution in the position description’s requisites.
  • He/she must be a strategic and creative thinker with an entrepreneurial mind set.
  • Demonstrated financial and analytical skills are a must.
  • Superior talent management and team building skills are critical with a track record of collaboration, building successful teams, growing organizations, open and transparent communications, and customer engagement.
  • Exemplary negotiation and people skills are essential.
  • The candidate must be of impeccable character and integrity.
  • He/she must be willing and able to travel occasionally, and pro-actively interact and communicate with management, customers, employees, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Alignment with The Crosby Hop Farm’s ethical standards and practices and value system is paramount.

Compensation

  • An attractive compensation package commensurate with the responsibility and significance of this position will be offered to the successful candidate.
  • Salary: $125,000.00 to $175,000.00 /year
