~ The NH Department of Environmental Service’s (NHDES) Watershed Assistance Section works with local organizations, other programs within NHDES, and EPA New England, to improve water quality in New Hampshire at the watershed level. ~

We are working with people in their watersheds to identify water resource goals and to develop and implement watershed management plans. 

Position Overview

The NHDES Watershed Assistance Section is seeking a part-time Salt Reduction Coordinator to assist in the agency’s efforts to manage the state’s commercial salt applicator certification program (Green SnowPro) and to reduce road salt application that impacts water quality. This is an exciting opportunity to continue growing the popular Green SnowPro program in New Hampshire and to work with hundreds of certified snow and ice management professionals in the state.

Responsibilities

  • This position is charged with working directly with agency partners, including private sector parking lot maintainers, NHDOT, the UNH Technology Transfer Center, municipalities, and the driving public.
  • The successful candidate must have familiarity with winter road and parking lot maintenance techniques and equipment, must have good rapport with winter road and parking lot maintainers, be comfortable conveying technical information in public settings, and be familiar with outreach approaches.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in a field related to environmental protection or business, such as construction management or marketing.
  • 4 years professional or paraprofessional experience in environmental or physical science, civil technology/construction management, business administration, communications, or a closely related field, with responsibility for program implementation, direct service delivery, planning or program evaluation.
  • Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
  • License/Certification: Eligibility for NH driver’s license.
  • The successful candidate must satisfactorily pass a criminal background and motor vehicle check.

Compensation: The hourly pay for this position is $23.27 for up to 29 hours per week. Health insurance benefits are not available.
