It’s no fun reporting on ever-rising greenhouse gases – the United Nations weather agency, the World Meteorological Organization, says carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide reached record highs in 2007, and methane rose to its highest level in 10 years.
"CO2 and N20 are increasing steadily and there is no sign of leveling off," WMO expert Geir Braathen said at a press conference.
Ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons, however, continue their slow downward trend, thanks to the 1987 Montreal Protocol.
"The Montreal Protocol, through the phase-out of ozone-depleting substances, has actually also had a positive effect on climate," he said.
