California Leads U.S. in Solar Installations

Over 60% of U.S. solar installations are in California, and 66% of those are in Northern California, according to a Northern California Solar Energy Association (NorCAL) report.

Although solar power still provides less than 1% of the state’s energy, 50,466 systems were installed in 2007 (244 MW) – there are 400 MW of solar installed in the State of California. When 2008 figures come in, the numbers should be higher by 30-40%. The county with the most solar systems is Santa Clara County, with 2,462, followed by Alameda County with 1,699.

LA’s new Solar LA plan will boost the numbers significantly.
