Advanced Ecological Restoration has managed a wide variety of projects with diverse restoration needs and varying unique budget constraints . We service a multitude of clients from single family home owners to multinational corporations. No project is too big or too small for our operation to handle and we have a wide variety of experiences that allow us to solve and trouble shoot the most challenging environmental issues. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties for the Nursery Worker position include but, not limited to watering, cultivating, pruning plant material. Environment includes working in ponds, greenhouse and nursery and with administrative staff. Must be tolerant of outdoor situations: heat, insects and rain. Some weekend and evening work may be required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Propagates plants from seeds, cuttings, layering, grafting and division; maintains propagation and step-up log.
  • Prepares soil with appropriate nutrients and fills beds for planting, assist with soil testing.
  • Prepares and dispenses fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides to enhance development and destroy undesirable growth and pests.
  • Prunes plants and trims shrubs to enhance development which involves reaching, kneeling, crawling, bending and stooping.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Some knowledge of modern practices and principles of horticulture, floriculture, agronomy and related fields.
  • Some knowledge of insects, parasites, diseases and other infestations which affect trees, shrubs, plants, flowers and grass and the composition and application of insecticides, fungicide and disinfectants for proper control.
  • Some knowledge of the occupational hazards of the work.
  • Some knowledge of plant biology and the common and botanical names of local trees, plants and flowers.
  • Some knowledge of irrigation systems and turf management.
  • Some knowledge of the American Association for Nursery workers (AAN) and ISA, ANSI A300 standards and guidelines for trimming, dead-wooding, removal, planting and staking.
  • Skilled in the proper use, safe operation and maintenance of various hand and power operated tools utilized in all phases of horticulture work.
  • Ability to lift 50 lb. bags of fertilizer and plants.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, crawl and kneel.
  • Ability to read and understand chemical and fertilizer labels and to apply or explain proper mixture and application procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, as necessitated by the work.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
