Position Overview

Ocean Power Technologies is seeking a Manufacturing Technician.

The Manufacturing Technician is a motivated, creative experienced technical resource with a focus on the assembly and testing of state of the art marine hydrokinetic power conversion systems to include mechanical, electromechanical and electrical structures, components and actuators.

He/she is a critical member of a multi-discipline and cross functional team where, in addition to his/her duties, he/she participates by sharing ideas, experiences, thoughts and expertise for the conception, design and development of efficient, reliable and cost effective solutions and products. He/she drives to implement industry best practice and all applicable manufacturing and safety standards. 

Responsibilities

Working together with the Operations Manager and the Engineering team, his/her responsibilities include:

  • General mechanical and electrical assembly- alignment, tolerancing, leveling, bolting, wiring
  • Assembly area, material, equipment and facilities set up and oversight
  • Assembly of power conversion equipment according to design prints, specifications, industry practice workmanship standards, procedures, instructions from project personnel
  • Electro-mechanical testing of components and assemblies
  • Hydraulics system assembly and operation
  • Electrical assembly and wiring practices
  • Handling of equipment, tools, facilities and material in an appropriate manner, with necessary maintenance and care
  • Carpentry for crating
  • Material handling/rigging of assemblies up to 5000 lbs
  • Machine shop tasks- lathe, mill, drill press, brake
  • Hand tools- drills, taps, punches, automatic screw drivers, wrenches, micrometers, calipers, wire strippers, wire cutters, crimping tools, hoists, torque wrenches and lifting apparatus use per job needs
  • Subassembly and drill pattern layout according to prints
  • Experience in inspecting incoming hardware and parts to prints (QC function)
  • Carry out duties as member of a project team to meet the overall team goals (Quality, Cost, and schedule)
  • Support the planning of all assembly, integration, testing and deployment of OPT systems
  • Effectively promote a safe working environment as well as a apply a stringent focus on quality, shop floor organization and overall management

Qualifications

  • Excellent workmanship practices
  • Experience with precision measuring
  • Can read assembly prints, and can project assembly order
  • Understanding of geometric tolerancing
  • Experience with manual machining or CNC
  • Understanding of wiring diagrams
  • Working knowledge of tools, fasteners
  • Welding certification a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of OSHA compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with national and international standards (UL, IEEE, EC…) a plus
  • Forklift certification a plus, but not required
  • Familiarity with industrial structure building a plus
  • Familiarity with marine environment a plus
