Position Overview
Union College seeks to fill a tenured or tenure-track position in our growing interdisciplinary studies program in Environmental Science, Policy and Engineering (ESPE), beginning in the fall of 2017. The College is especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, scholarship, and service.
The person in this position will play an important role in the development, strengthening, and leadership of the Environmental Engineering track of ESPE as well as the Science and Policy tracks, and as such represents an exciting opportunity for an environmental engineer with interdisciplinary interests and strong leadership skills.
Qualifications
- Qualifications include a PhD in Environmental Engineering or a closely related field, and a commitment to teaching and research in an undergraduate liberal arts environment.
- The appointment may be made at any rank, commensurate with experience and/or current standing.
- The ideal candidate will be an engineer who considers sustainable solutions to global environmental challenges.
- Examples of such challenges, among many, include:
- Lower-carbon energy generation and energy efficiency;
- Sustainable urban design including air, water, buildings, and transportation;
- Sustainable manufacturing including life cycle analysis and material design;
- Geoengineering; and
- Hydrology.
- The successful hire will be expected to teach an introductory course in Environmental Science and supervise undergraduate research, and will have opportunities to teach environmental engineering courses to students with technical and non-technical backgrounds, as well as courses that serve as electives in other science or engineering majors.
