Description
~ For 25 years, the Conservation Trust for North Carolina has helped save the places you love - streams, forests, farms, scenic vistas, wildlife habitat, parks, and trails. ~
We work with local land trusts, landowners, and communities to protect these natural treasures, so that all North Carolinians can enjoy safe drinking water, clean air, fresh local foods, and recreational opportunities, for generations to come. By doing so, we promote greater individual and community health.
Position Overview
We seek an energetic and well organized individual to support our four emerging leaders programs that reconnect people with the outdoors, provide hands-on opportunities to gain job and life skills, expand environmental education and outreach, and develop future leaders in conservation. These programs are: North Carolina Youth Conservation Corps, CTNC AmeriCorps, Diversity in Conservation Internship Program, and the Future Leaders of Conservation Advisory Board.
Responsibilities
Recruitment:
- Recruit candidates for our emerging leaders programs via outreach at high schools/colleges/universities, tabling at career fairs, and working with partner organizations and host sites on job listings
- Help build diverse applicant pools that include people of color and people from low income communities
- List positions on Hiring Thing, job boards, and partner/host websites
- Member management and support
- Identify and help members achieve professional and personal goals
- Assist with program timesheets, data reporting, compiling records
Program planning and support:
- Assist with program logistics such as facility rentals, meals, equipment, supplies, campsite reservations, and transportation
- Assist with planning and carrying out orientations, closing ceremonies, and other events
Professional development:
- Organize job trainings, professional development opportunities, and leadership development activities
- Organize networking events
- Organize career and graduate school fairs
Facilitate mentoring:
- Alumni tracking, outreach, and engagement
- Develop tracking system to stay in touch with alumni, track school/career progress
- Develop alumni network such as through alumni map, listserv, discussion list, LinkedIn, alumni profiles, and social media
- Engage alumni in professional development, mentoring
- Share/post information about jobs and other career advancement opportunities
Communications/Public Relations:
- Work with communications staff to develop stories/profiles on program participants and alumni, create social media content, draft press releases, take pictures and video, etc.
Grants:
- Assist with identifying funding sources and writing grants
Advisory Board Support:
- Serve as staff liaison to Future Leaders of Conservation Advisory Board, assist with meeting planning and follow up
- Provide support for Advisory board meetings, events
Qualifications
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and in project teams
- Positive attitude and energy
- Experience with youth development and managing youth programs
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Computer proficiency, especially Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps
- Minimum 4-year degree required
- Some in-state travel and participation in weekend events required
- Compensation based on experience
