Our mission is to help the community to preserve open space, working lands and habitat in Jefferson County on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. Landowners work with a Land Trust when they wish to permanently protect wetlands, floodplains, farmlands, wildlife corridors, and scenic areas from inappropriate development.

Position Overview

The Development Manager builds community involvement and philanthropic support for Jefferson Land Trust by promoting authentic relationships and meaningful opportunities for connection with donors and the community.

In collaboration with the Director of Development and Communications, this position will design and lead a comprehensive annual fund program to diversify and grow revenue streams, including fundraising events, business partnerships, mail appeals, ecampaigns, giving circles, and donor recognition activities.

The Development Manager will oversee the effective use of our Salesforce constituent database to record donations, manage relationships, and produce statistical reporting and analysis, mailing lists, and donor/prospect research reports.

Responsibilities 

Annual Giving:

  • Implement annual appeal calendar of direct mail, e-mail and social media to meet revenue goals
  • Segment and analyze current database and prospect lists to define audiences for appeals
  • Work with Director of Development on moves management strategies with annual donors of all levels and manage prospect pipeline reporting
  • Complete solicitations on personal portfolio assignments of donor prospects to meet annual goals.
  • Provide support to the Donor Relations Committee, senior management team, and Board of Directors in tracking and managing team portfolios
  • Develop and implement plans and strategies to cultivate and expand business partnerships and achieve annual sponsorship revenue goals
  • Assist in communications and outreach activities including the development of fundraising materials and community events

Event Manager:

  • Lead 2 annual fundraising events. Responsible for event conception, planning and logistics, materials, volunteer and vendor coordination, staff engagement, budget management and outcome reporting
  • Plan and implement donor stewardship and cultivation events, house parties, property tours, and other donor engagement activities

Database Management and Reporting:

  • Serve as administrator of Salesforce database, maintaining its integrity with timely audits to assure data quality.
  • Oversee Salesforce protocols and provide training to other internal users
  • Complete gift entry, gift reporting and reconciliation with finance department and other members of the development department
  • Compile reports as needed for staff, Donor Relations Committee, Board of Directors
  • Create and analyze donor prospect lists, conduct prospect research, and prepare briefing materials for Board and staff
  • Create custom reports to support constituent engagement and revenue analysis
  • Develop and manage tools for benchmarking progress in alignment with 2016-2019 Strategic Plan goals

Donor Acknowledgement, Stewardship and Recognition Coordination:

  • Follow timely process for mailing gift acknowledgements and update donor correspondence
  • Provide timely pledge reminders and end of year tax statements to donors
  • Implement donor stewardship plan and coordinate staff and volunteers assignments
  • Manage donor recognition strategies and Director's Circle giving club memberships
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree from accredited institution and 5 years of experience in fields of fundraising, event planning, marketing, and/or similar experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience planning and prioritizing workload to meet tight deadlines while juggling priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an outgoing and friendly demeanor
  • Ability to effectively engage and involve volunteers and committees to achieve shared goals

Development:

  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and listening
  • Event planning experience
  • Familiarity with business sponsorships, donor cultivation, moves management, giving clubs, and planned giving programs desired
  • Project management experience in a team-based environment

Advanced computer skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite and adept at using various applications including spreadsheets, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, e-mail and scheduling software
  • Fluency with constituent relationship management software 
  • Salesforce experience desired

Commitment to conservation:

  • Passion for protecting natural habitats, farmlands and scenic open spaces
  • Knowledge of Jefferson County and its local communities a plus

Compensation: Starting Salary Range: $42,000 - $50,000 with comprehensive benefits package.
