We use legal and scientific expertise and bring people together to achieve results that benefit our environment for current and future generations. We work with thousands of partners and stakeholders, including elected officials and community leaders, individual citizen activists (12,500), volunteers (2,500), and members (3,900).

Our programming includes projects in water quality and pollution reduction, land conservation, clean air and energy, public transit, wildlife habitat and migratory fish, enforcement of environmental law, and more.

Position Overview

We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Green Projects Administrator.

The successful applicant's skills would integrate into and complement our existing team, allowing us to fulfill the mission of Green Projects implementation in the Long Island Sound watershed.

The STS/CFE portfolio of projects is growing and the ability to work on multiple projects and to be flexible in the effective administration of such is important. Projects are grant driven and the ability to complete projects in a timely manner and within budget is a major consideration. 

Responsibilities  

  • The Green Projects Team implements projects that protect and restore Connecticut’s land and waters and Long Island Sound. This implementation often includes project identification, securing funding, engaging and collaborating with engineers or other design professionals, permitting and acting as project administrator to construct the project.
  • The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with the Green Projects Team on a variety of projects including but not limited to dam removal and river restoration, marsh restoration, coastal resiliency and green infrastructure.
  • The existing Green Projects Team covers a wide range of skills that are utilized in different ways on different projects. 

Qualifications  

A strong background in one or more of the following areas is required: 

  • Habitat restoration project management
  • Dam removal
  • Green infrastructure
  • River restoration
  • Wetland or other aquatic habitat field experience
  • Ecosystem services
  • Inland or coastal ecological restoration
  • Fisheries
  • Wetland delineation/Plant identification

Education in one of the following areas is critical: 

  • Engineering
  • Fluvial geomorphology
  •  Wetland science
  •  Fisheries
  •  Coastal ecology
  •  Restoration ecology
  •  Environmental science
  •  Stormwater management
  • Watershed hydrology

Some of the desired qualifications include: 

  • Strong commitment to improving the health of rivers, shorelines, and Long Island Sound
  • Self-motivated and ability to work in a team atmosphere
  • Comfort with working in a non-profit
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write and speak to a diverse group of stakeholders in plain language
  • Potential to participate in state and regional discussions that will improve the efficacy and efficiency of green infrastructure and/or habitat restoration throughout the state and region
  • Experience working with municipal, state and federal officials and agencies and other diverse stakeholder groups
  • Familiarity with the management of plans, scopes, contracts, budgets, schedules, inspections, and contractor supervision
  • Experience with the state and federal permitting process and monitoring requirements
  • Familiarity with relevant computer programs beyond basic Office suite, such as Arc GIS 

Additionally:  

  • We expect this person to be a self-starter and to hit the ground running. The selected candidate may assume independent responsibility for discrete projects in short order.
  • The Green Projects Administrator will build momentum and increase capacity of the Green Projects Team by cultivating partnerships, funding sources, and professional relationships to increase CFE/STS’s positive impact on Connecticut’s land, rivers and Long Island Sound.
