~ The California League of Conservation Voters is the political arm of California's environmental community. ~

Now in its 41st year, CLCV is a leader in the environmental movement both in California and around the nation. CLCV is distinguished for its political influence: we support environmental candidates for state public office, track legislative activity, and implement environmental policy reform programs.

Our Annual Environmental Scorecard is the authoritative source on environmental actions of the state electorate. In addition to an annual budget of $5 million, CLCV raises funds for political campaigns and PACs. CLCV is a mature and growing organization with a current membership of 50,000. 

Position Overview  

The Finance and Operations Director (FOD) is an integral part of the CLCV team and oversees the organization's internal systems and core infrastructure elements.

The FOD's primary responsibilities include managing the finance, and information technology; in addition to providing oversight for human resources, office management, and facilities management. The FOD will supervise three administrative positions, and will provide organizational leadership as a member of the management team. 


Primary Responsibilities
 

Finance: 

  • Manage organizational budget, cash flow, payables, and receivables.
  • Ensure effective financial/accounting policies and procedures, developing and implementing best practice finance and administrative systems.
  • Lead annual organization budget process.
  • Oversee and coordinate the annual audit.
  • Serve as primary liaison with the Audit Committee.
  • Ensure submission of timely and accurate financial reports, tax filings, and other required financial data.
  • Work with external auditors and accountants.
  • Supervise Accounting/Payroll Manager.
  • Serve as Treasurer on PAC accounts and work with outside PAC administrators.
  • Oversee grant management and the timely release of restriction processes. 

Information Technology: 

  • Manage the organization's information technology systems, including the computer network, hardware, and software. Ensure that systems are constantly evolving to meet the needs of staff and adequately safeguarded. 
  • Oversee Raisers Edge, CLCV's primary database. Ensure integrity of the data and continuity across departments. 
  • Work with IT consultants and vendors.
  • Supervise Database Manager. 

Human Resources: 

  • Oversee payroll and benefits.
  • Oversee HR policies and procedures.
  • Supervise HR/Administrative Manager. 

Operations: 

  • Oversee organizational insurance policies.
  • Manage multiple office leases and major facility/equipment purchases.
  • Ensure proper functioning, safety, and appearance of office systems, including phones, mail, copier, and furniture.
  • Assist with drafting consulting contracts.
  • Perform other tasks as needed or requested by the COO and CEO. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Ten plus years of management experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Deep understanding of nonprofit finance (funding, planning and budgeting, reporting, and analysis).
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Skill and passion for developing strong systems and business processes that improve performance and organizational impact.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong information technology skills.
  • Knowledge of 501( c )3, and 501( c )4 organizations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills; detail oriented.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Outstanding time management skills, with proven ability to multi-task and change priorities in an effective and timely manner.
  • Ability to work with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective working in team environments.
  • Enthusiasm for CLCV's mission and/or environmental justice.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. 
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
