The
Pioneer Project
The
Pioneer Project addresses technological inequity in Chicago communities that
stems from the digital divide. CrossRealms, Inc. has created an initiative
called Pioneer, to be integrated into Chicago libraries, schools, and local
organizations focusing on integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics (STEM) to their current programs.
The
project centers on creating an open-learning environment for youth of any age
to access, practice, and acquire skills from specially designed hands-on projects
from CrossRealms Engineers and Sustainability team.
We are currently focused on
building a Robotics activity that utilizes the Arduino and a software game that
builds your input and output skills required for programming. As well, we are
interested in pursuing projects that utilize the Raspberry Pi. We anticipate
for these projects to be accompanied with custom-made directions.
Internship Overview
The
Engineer Intern will be tasked with assisting the lead Engineer and
Sustainability team by working on a team and personal project, in accordance
with Pioneers goals.
We are seeking candidates who will make a commitment of 5-10 hours per week for at least 3 months. We will offer academic credit if your University approves.
Responsibilities
Key
Tasks of Your Role:
- Work directly on
either a Robotics, Software Game, or Raspberry Pi project from start to end. - Research and identify
the necessary materials required for each project and document them for
approval. - Set goals and
timelines for your project and complete in a timely manner. - Report weekly to the
Sustainability Team on your progress. - Work closely with the
Sustainability Team to develop written project directions following completion
of each project.
Qualifications
Recommended
Skills:
- Self-Starter.
- Creative Worker.
- Good communication
and able to ask for help if needed. - Able to work with a
team and individually. - Current undergraduate
or graduate Engineering student. - Experience with
computer programming, robotics, gaming, computer boards (i.e. Raspberry Pi,
Arduino).
