Position Overview
The Facilities and Stewardship Operations Manager (FSOM) will manage the care and maintenance of Teatown's facilities (structures, systems, vehicles, equipment) and its natural surroundings (i.e., grounds).
The FSOM is assisted by one full time Senior Maintainer, one Weekend Maintainer, a part-time Trail Steward, and a part-time Land Steward. The position is supervised by the Managing Director and the Director of Conservation Science.
Responsibilities
Facilities/Grounds:
- To manage the day to day physical operations of Teatown property including parking lots, tenant properties, security, janitorial and overall maintenance of the physical plant.
- Supervise third party services and monitor and schedule repairs and maintenance to ensure that they are handled in a proactive and timely manner.
- Schedule and perform daily and weekly walkthroughs in all areas of responsibility with special attention to cleanliness, structural soundness and safety.
- The goal is always to enhance the visitor experience.
Stewardship and Trail Maintenance:
- Implement habitat management activities as specified in Teatown's Stewardship Plan.
- Oversee implementation and management of Teatown's deer management program.
- Monitor dams and ensure compliance with NYS regulations.
- Develop plans for repairs as needed.
- Duties may include mowing fields, thinning trees, managing invasive species, planting native plants and lake management.
- Responsible for maintaining the safety, sustainability and aesthetics of Teatown's hiking trails including removing hazardous trees, repairing erosion, mowing, and maintaining signage.
- Oversee the trail and land stewards and various volunteer groups in implementing these goals.
Qualifications
Position Requirements:
- College degree or equivalent.
- Five years related work experience required with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks through effective use of organizational and time management skills.
- Carpentry, landscaping and appropriate maintenance equipment experience.
- Professional work ethic.
- Clean driver's license.
- Ability to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends as needed.
- A can-do attitude and a tolerant, friendly personality with a sense of humor.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in natural resource management preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of appropriate work experience.
- Experience using heavy equipment such as tractors and backhoes.
- Maintenance and carpentry experience
- Ability to work well without direct supervision, solve problems as they arise and make decisions.
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
- Ability to supervise, train and work with staff.
- Experience soliciting contractors and overseeing projects.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery, walk the property repeatedly, lift, bend and twist as necessary in regard to maintenance, daily operations and field work.
Compensation: This is a salaried, full-time position, working 35 hours per week, 7 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Some weekend and evening hours are required. Salary range is $50,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience.
