OpenTreeMap team is growing and we hope you will join us. ~
Position Overview
OpenTreeMap (OTM)
is an online, collaborative platform for urban ecosystem data management that
is available as both open source software and as a SaaS (cloud) offering. OTM enables communities to improve their urban
street tree inventory by engaging the public in exploring and mapping the urban
forest. It can also be used to assess
the ecosystem services value (the value of stormwater infiltration, energy
savings, carbon sequestration, etc.) for each tree and green infrastructure
feature in the system.
OTM is currently marketed to government agencies and
non-profit organizations that are engaged in community forestry programs, but
we believe there are significant growth opportunities in other sectors including
corporate campuses, universities, military bases, golf courses, and utilities.
Your role will be to work with the product and marketing teams to research,
develop, test, and adapt a business development strategy to grow OTM in its
existing markets and expand its use in new markets.
Responsibilities
What you'll do:
- Work
with the OpenTreeMap team to identify potential customers and markets as well
as design and execute outreach activities to expand the customer base - Identify
and design activities to actively cultivate the current OTM users to turn them
into customers - Foster
and cultivate new relationships with existing and potential product partners in
order to extend OTM to an international marketplace - Respond
to leads in a timely fashion and provide cost estimates - Produce
meaningful marketing content in the form of product updates, blogs,
videos, tutorials, webinars, newsletter articles, etc. - Conduct
orientation webinars for new users and product webinars - Attend
conferences and trade shows, including both managing booths and speaking
about OTM and urban sustainability - Maintain
the OTM Twitter feed and engage followers - Test
the OpenTreeMap software, report bugs, and suggest potential improvements - Develop
domain knowledge in urban ecosystems, sustainability, and green
infrastructure
Qualifications
You should:
- Be
genuinely interested in urban ecosystems, sustainability, and the
environment - Have
an interest in technology, the web, and geeky projects - Have
excellent writing skills, with a big plus if you are familiar with copy
writing - Demonstrate
that you have a go-getter attitude
without being pushy and salesy - Have
experience in product and/or business development - Be
proactive and self-motivated - Have
confidence speaking in public and networking in groups of people you don't
know - Have
strong skills with basic business applications: email, Word, Excel, the
web, etc. - Have
radical attention to detail - Want
to grow professionally in terms of your technical and business knowledge

- Good
knowledge of a non-English language or experience living overseas -

Office and Benefits:
Our Philadelphia
office is located in a brightly lit office on the 4th floor of a
converted factory building in the Callowhill neighborhood, a short walk from Center City,
the Reading Terminal Market and SEPTA subway and regional rail stations.
For bicyclists, we have in-house bike
parking, a shower and lockers. It's an
open office plan with several smaller rooms for team meetings, private space
and concentration time. You get a
Windows workstation with extra memory for VMs and two monitors.
While it's not come-as-you-please, we have
flex-time to deal with personal stuff, and most people work a 40 - 45 hour week
on a regular schedule. After the first
six months, our staff has the option of spending up to 10% of their time on
either technical training or an R&D project. Once a quarter, we all get together to work
on our R&D projects as well as share our work with our colleagues.
