~ The Green Electronics Council (GEC) is a global nonprofit organization whose mission is inspiring and enabling responsible environmental action in the design, purchase and recovery of electronic products. ~
Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, GEC is active in 43 countries and plays an environmentally important role in shaping global electronics markets.
The main role of GEC has traditionally been the management of the EPEAT Registry. That role is expanding to include outreach, education, policy discussion and convening of global stakeholders.
Position Overview
GEC's expansion has led to creation of this Events Developer position. The position will report to the CEO in Portland, will be full time, and will require travel. Salary, benefits and time off are consistent with the job responsibilities and generous for the nonprofit sector.
Responsibilities
The core responsibility of this position will be identifying, organizing and executing meetings, charettes, workshops and conferences that promote our goal of greener electronics.
Core requirements for the Events Developer position include:
- At least a four-year college degree, graduate degree preferred
- At least five years management experience in outreach, event organization, press management and/or business development
- Proven interest and experience in environmental causes, familiarity with green product areas and/or specific green electronics understanding preferred
- Proven capability in event management, experience managing national or global conferences a plus
- Ability to work with diverse clients, proven capability in issues and conflict management
- High fluency in press relations and PR management
- Experience working with pertinent databases and software organizational tools
- Experience using online convening tools to build online communities, facilitate webinars, online trainings, etc.
- Ability to build and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial outcomes
- Ability to negotiate, close and manage contracts
- Strong communication skills
- A style that combines passion, persistence, urgency, patience, and an understanding of a broad range of cultures and motivations
- Ability to work happily under pressure of time, money, third-party performance and other delights of multi-party responsibilities
- A good spirit, work ethic, and commitment to global outcomes
