Sustainable Living Association (SLA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
committed to applying our vision and expertise toward a sustainable future for
all. We are a solution-driven organization with the distinguishing quality to
move people toward powerful and profound choices in an effort to stave off
complacency about issues affecting our world.
Our mission is to educate people and
communities in the Rocky Mountain region to make healthy sustainable choices.
Each year, since 2000 SLA has hosted the Sustainable Living Fair, the largest
event of its kind in the Rocky Mountain region. As a working model of how to live and succeed within the
realm of environmental and social responsibility, the Fair has become a
national destination point for sustainable education and information.
Our educational programs and workshops
offer creative challenges, delivering valuable, long-term benefits for a wide
range of community interests that improve the relationship between people and
the environment. These programs forge connections between ideas, principles and
resources and harness communication to better understand and express essential
relationships that combine a local sense of place with global respect for
sustainability.
Position Overview
The Program Director is primarily
responsible for coordinating the Sustainable Living Fair,
Earth Day Fort Collins, Tour de Coop, and Tour de Farms. The Program
Director reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the
management of day-to-day operations related to overall financial wellbeing, planning
and carrying out these programs and providing oversight on strategic
development.
Note: The position will be filled by March 1, 2014
Responsibilities
Program Director’s Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management:
- Develop and execute program
strategy for SLA’s Program Year that begins with Earth Day in the Spring and
ramps up to the Sustainable Living Fair in the Fall - Plan the delivery of the overall
programs and activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the
organization - Financial responsibility includes
setting and meeting fundraising objectives, evaluating results and developing
corrective strategies as needed - Develop and implement long-term
goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the program - Ability to guide both the
high-level vision of programs and simultaneously oversee the numerous details
involved in successfully managing the programs - Oversee Steering Committee
projects and facilitate work to fit into program goals - Oversee website development and
other web initiatives for programs
Communications:
- Actively create a collaborative
work environment, fostering a solution oriented approach to challenges and encourage
innovation - Plan and execute program communication
strategy - Develop e-newsletters, conduct
mailings and maintain participant database - Engage volunteers for appropriate
program activities using established volunteer management practices - Provide marketing support and
outreach for programs - Complete final reports and assist
in developing Annual Report
Development:
- Engage in regular communications
with sponsors, exhibitors, participants and prospects about SLA’s offerings and
maintain these relationships - Provide administrative support
related to programs - Contribute to fundraising
activities, such as grant-writing, membership, sponsorship and exhibitor development - Develop partnerships to advance SLA’s
mission of promoting sustainability while reaching organization’s fundraising
goals
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3-5 years of program development
and execution in a nonprofit setting or in partnership with nonprofits - 3-5 years of working experience
in business and nonprofit sectors - Solid understanding of nonprofit
membership organizations: programs, fundraising, and operations. Grant-writing
experience preferred - Communication skills: Excellent verbal
and writing skills - Marketing Communication Skills:
Experience developing, implementing and evaluating marketing strategies and
campaigns - Relationship building: Experience
in partnership development and management - Organization: Detail-oriented
with a strong work ethic and results-oriented attitude - Leadership: Self-starter,
entrepreneurial individual with strong passion for change and motivation,
capable of leading projects and people - Computer skills: tech and web
savvy and a quick learner, experience with DonorSnap database management system
preferred
Working Conditions and Compensation
- The Program Director works in the
SLA office and from home office, depending on schedules - Occasional early morning or
evening meetings 2-3 times per month can be expected - Compensation reflects experience
and SLA’s budget - salary
range $35,000-$45,000 annually, commensurate with experience, room for
advancement
