Position Overview:

We're looking for an experienced business leader to join the friendly and highly effective professionals on our Executive Team. Come help us grow our entrepreneurial, mission-driven organization that helps individuals and businesses save energy and reduce waste. This position manages and has direct responsibility for fiscal administration, information technology, human resources, contract management, regulatory compliance and insurance, and facilities.

The Director of Business Operations provides leadership, management and vision to ensure the financial strength and operating efficiencies that allow us to greatly expand our mission impact. This position works side by side with the Executive Director and other Directors responsible for service operations and sales, business development and marketing. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include the following. Other responsibilities may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day management in order to successfully support CET's mission.
  • Collaborate with the other members of the Executive Team and the Business Operations team to develop and implement the infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel needed to meet the changing needs of the organization.
  • Use business experience to help inform strategy and support our service operations, sales, business development and marketing functions.

Fiscal administration

  • Supervise the Accounting Manager who oversees all fiscal operations including tracking and reporting, invoicing, internal controls, accounts payable and receivable, collections, cash flow management, purchase orders, payroll preparation and inventory.
  • Oversee annual budget process including creation of budget and conduct regular reviews of forecasts and budget-to-actual numbers.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of new business strategies and cost efficiency measures.
  • Develop and maintain capital improvement plan and budget, and manage financing needs and commitments.

Insurance, Contract Management and Regulatory compliance

  • Supervise the Manager of HR and Administration who ensures compliance in concert with appropriate staff for all regulations and requirements including IRS, DOL, OSHA, DOT, Fire Safety, Service Mark Registration, etc.
  • In consultation with appropriate staff and legal counsel, oversee proper implementation of contracts and agreements.
  • Procure and manage liability, health, property, vehicle and workers compensation insurance and implement insurance provider requirements.

Facilities, fleet and equipment 

  • Supervise the Manager of HR and Administration who oversees the purchasing, maintenance and repair, and capital improvements for all facilities, fleet and equipment.
  • Play an integral role in CET's efforts to measure and reduce the environmental impact of our operations.
  • Oversee major building renovation projects.

Information technology

  • Supervise the Manager of HR and Administration who oversees IT staff and contractors to develop and manage data systems (including CRM systems), IT infrastructure and communications systems and equipment.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies on an on-going basis.
  • Work with staff to develop, implement and update a technology plan and budget.

Human Resources

  • Supervise the Manager of HR and Administration who oversees all human resources procedures related to recruitment, hiring, discipline and termination, training, compensation, benefits, evaluations, policy development, safety and record keeping. 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements 

  • Masters degree in Business or related subject or equivalent experience in business management with hands-on experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience managing operations including Fiscal, HR, IT, and Facilities for medium-sized organization.

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, experience selecting and overseeing contractors that develop Sharepoint and Salesforce instances or other CRM software, and familiarity with financial and HR software.  
  • Maintain confidentiality of personnel, fiscal, customer, and internal organizational information for which access is required in order to perform responsibilities.

Comensation: This is a full-time salaried position with benefits based in our Northampton office with regular travel to our Pittsfield and Springfield locations. CET offers competitive pay rates and a comprehensive health plan which pays approximately 60% of the individual's health insurance costs.
