Description

Having been around since 1958, the Stone family of Environmental Schools is the one of the first New England schools of its type. Waldo Stone, founder of Stone Environmental School, had the vision of creating a school where children and adults would learn appreciation for the natural beauty and wonder of New England through experiences they would carry with them the rest of their lives.

Operating in Madison New Hampshire since 1993, Stone has operated in various other places such as Otter Lake New Hampshire, Groton Massachusetts, Ocean Park and Ferry Beach Maine.

Position Overview:

Stone Environmental School is seeking qualified instructors/naturalists to plan and lead outdoor lessons in Ecology (forest and wetland), Team-Building (low ropes course, large and small group activities), and Night Activities (night hikes, campfires) to students primarily in grades 4-8.

Instructors are required to participate in various duties throughout the week (performing skits, kitchen duties). There is a week of extensive staff training prior to every season.

Dates of Employment: Full time seasonal.
Fall: Early September to November.
Spring: Late March to early June.

Qualifications:

  • Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills and a great attitude!
  • A Bachelor's Degree in environmental studies, education, science, or a related field, prior experience teaching children and/or leading outdoor environmental education programs preferred but not required.
  • Certifications in First Aid and CPR are required by the starting date of our programming--there may be an opportunity to obtain these certifications during staff training week.
  • Experience with song leading, story telling, and/or addressing large groups is a plus.

Compensation: Weekly stipend based on education and experience and room and board for the extent of season (including weekends). The occasional 3-day weekend! And the opportunity to work outside most of the day and with a great staff.
