About the Sustainable Food Trade Association
The Sustainable Food Trade Association is a non-profit trade association that represents North American, mission-aligned organic food companies. Our membership is comprised of a diverse mix of organic producers, processors, manufacturers, distributors and retailers. We support our members in implementing innovative sustainable business practices across the supply chain, from farm to retail. Our mission is to build the capacity of the organic food trade to transition to sustainable business models.
Position Overview:
Seeking qualified candidates to serve as Executive Director of a dynamic and growing non-profit tradeassociation for sustainable businesses in the organic food industry. Ideal candidates are proven leaders who can inspire teams and individuals, and who have dedication to ecological, social and economic stewardship and a passion for driving sustainable business leadership in the food industry. S/he will be a big-picture thinker who is decisive and pragmatic, and demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with staff, board, committees and other organizations and partners.
- Preference for the position to be located in Portland, Oregon, but will consider strong candidates working remotely from other U.S. locations.
Overview of Responsibilities:
- Serves as the chief administrative officer reporting to the Board of Directors
- Provides leadership and direction toward achievement of the organization's mission, strategy, annual
- goals and objectives
- Major responsibilities include board administration & support, financial & risk management, human
- resources management, overseeing program delivery, community & public relations, and fundraising
- Acts as the primary spokesperson for SFTA with the membership, wider food industry, advocacy
- partners, public policy arena, and the media
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- 3+ years of organic/natural food industry experience
- Significant working knowledge of sustainable business practices, performance measurement and theory
- Demonstrates ability to conceptualize, communicate and lead SFTA to carry forward organizational goals and strategy in response to changing needs and opportunities
- Able to represent SFTA in a variety of settings including trade events, conferences, public policy arena, and with the media
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including listening, public speaking, meeting facilitation and consensus-building
- Management and supervisory experience, with strong teambuilding and the ability to motivate and develop others
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and experience with financial management, budgeting and reporting
- Experience with fund development and grant writing
- Nonprofit experience, including experience working directly for, or as a member of, a board of directors.
- Bachelors Degree in appropriate field; Master's or advanced degree a plus
- Ability to travel domestically, up to 8 trips a year, or equivalent of 3-4 weeks annually
- Ability to work from home office
- Computer/technical skills sufficient to perform required duties
Hours, Salary & Benefits:
- This is a full time exempt salaried position
