Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President, the Director is responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategy and direction for advancing and integrating sustainability and energy conservation principles into the operational functions of New York University. The Director will lead the effort to update and support the long-term sustainability vision, mission and operating principles for NYU and develop the high-level strategy for integrating sustainable operations and development into university core processes and decision-making. 

Qualifications:

  • Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. 
  • Preferred Education: MBA or advanced Engineering or Physical Science Degree. LEED Accredited Professional. Certified Energy manager (CEM).
  • Required Experience: 7-10 years of progressive experience and leadership in the area of sustainability initiatives, including policy development and implementation, energy conservation, project development and implementation.
  • Facility optimization performing engineering and economic analysis of building energy consumption from lighting and mechanical systems and energy project development to improve the operational efficiency and lower utility costs.
  • Experience auditing and evaluating facilities and operations for energy efficiency; collecting data, developing findings and implementing solutions. 
  • Preferred Experience: Experience within a University campus setting. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Experience with energy, water and waste conservation in buildings. Thorough understanding of energy and sustainability principles and best practices in a university or corporate setting. 
  • Understanding of wholesale and retail energy markets, including energy and commodity procurement, utility rebates, system curtailment programs and utility rate structures in a deregulated marketplace. 
  • Ability to work effectively work individually or in teams as well as with diverse groups. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and via email, memo and letter. Ability to make presentations and effecitvely speak in public. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a service oriented environment subject to recently changing priorities and project deadlines and time constraints. 
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving skills, Attention to detail and accuracy in implementing organizational and management strategy and plans. 
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the ability to learn other software as required.
