A Better City (ABC) is an independent, membership-based organization that improves the economic competitiveness and quality of life of the Boston region by advancing significant transportation, land development and environmental policies, projects and initiatives. ABC works to anticipate the challenges facing the region today and into the future. We mobilize the business community and work together with both civic and government sectors to take action.
ABC's Transportation Management Association (ABC TMA) provides Transportation Demand Management (TDM) services to businesses, institutions, and buildings located in Boston. Services are aimed at reducing drive alone commute through the promotion of public transit, carpooling, vanpooling, biking and walking.
Position Overview:
Preferred Candidate: Current Undergraduate/Graduate student or recent graduate in marketing/communications, transportation planning, environmental studies or urban planning. We are looking for someone who is passionate about advancing sustainability initiatives, especially with influencing behavior change around commuter transportation.
The intern will assist in our outreach efforts and be able to organize logistics and attend our events. The intern will assist in our efforts to expand the TMA into the Kenmore, Fenway, Allston, and Brighton areas.
Responsibilities:
The TMA Intern shall be responsible for the following activities:
- Assist in organizing and attending events such as: Transportation fairs, HR benefit fairs, fall walking series
- Make phone calls and follow up with members and potential members to schedule events or meetings
- Assist with program management activities including monthly mailings and answering questions from commuters about our programs or sending out email correspondence to members
- Research similar agencies and gather best practices on engagement as they relate to messaging, promotions, and events that have the most success in changing commuting mode behavior
- Create, administer, and perform data manipulation to survey participants in TMA programs
- Other administrative duties as necessary
Qualifications:
- Comfortable speaking to a diverse group of people in a variety of settings
- Ability to communicate our program benefits clearly
- Organized and detail-orientated
- Adept at social marketing methods
- Researching methods including surveys
- Ability to think creatively and thoroughly develop and present ideas
- Creative and enthusiastic
- Familiarity with Transportation Demand Management techniques
Compensation: Salary and benefits are not provided to persons in this position.
