The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) promotes sustainable and equitable transport worldwide. ITDP is a nonprofit organization headquartered in New York City with offices in China, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico City and the United States. ITDP's programs focus on bus rapid transit, non-motorized travel, travel demand management, parking, transport policy and urban development.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the IT Director, the IT Operations Coordinator will support USA and international employees with ITDP information technology, with a heavy focus on working with vendors, managing inventory records, migrating data, and testing and documenting software updates. ITDP IT is currently a one-person shop with help from vendors and field office liaisons.

Based in our NYC, Union Square office, the operations coordinator will work 2 or more days per week (flexible) between the hours of 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM for a total of 12 to 14 hours per week (set at the time of hiring). * Mornings and Mondays strongly preferred. * In addition, the specialist must be available for after-hours work when planned in advance or during the rare emergency.

Responsibilities:

The operations coordinator will help develop a more efficient, responsive, and sustainable IT service, with the following responsibilities:

  • coordinating purchases and service requests between vendors and employees
  • inventory management, including but not limited to licenses, hardware, warranties, and our tech support "cheat sheets"
  • vendor price quotes, purchases, and returns
  • record-keeping and documentation, including service request updates and online how-to guides
  • data migrations
  • software testing, documentation, deployment, changes, removal and repairs with remote deployment tools and "sneakernet" (but not so much by sneakernet, thank goodness)
  • hardware update testing, documentation, deployment, changes, removal and disposal with PCs, Macs, and hardware such as wifi access points, ethernet, mobile hotspots, and printers
  • accounts and groups management
  • backup testing, scheduling, and restorations

Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma
  • 1 or more years of professional IT coordinator experience
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in technical support in an environment similar to this: Nonprofit which works with local governments and businesses
  • Wiki-based intranet with social features like Facebook and Twitter
  • White glove service for VIP's
  • Employees in different time zones
  • Frequent travelers
  • OSX Macs and Windows 7 PC's
  • Google Apps for Business/Education/Nonprofits
  • Microsoft Server 2008 R2 (Apple OSX Lion Server a plus)
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro and Creative Suite Design Standard
  • Software deployments and configuration via Active Directory, LogMeIn Central, and Apple Remote Desktop, as well as manual updates
  • Network printers and network scanners shared via Active Directory, Bonjour, and web portal
  • Technical challenges of China's firewall and internet monitoring

Preferred Experience:

  • Writing how-to instructions, or teaching IT-related classes
  • Working for an international organization.
  • Relevant IT or customer service certifications such as CompTIA A+, HDI Support Analyst, etc.
  • Working with Atlassian Confluence, Crowd, Jira, Salesforce or similar systems
  • Contributing IT information to a company wiki
  • Keeping employees up to date with service requests through a service request ticketing system.
  • Demonstrating initiative in a support context
  • A strong interest in making IT work better for others

Compensation: Compensation is $17 per hour, 14 hours per week.
