College of Southern Idaho is an American public community college. Its main campus is in Twin Falls, Idaho, with outreach programs in Boise, Hailey, Burley and Gooding.

Position Overview:

Instruct students in industrial mechanics and electrical systems relevant to renewable energy technology. Work includes planning, scheduling, student recruitment, and curriculum development. Position involves analyzing community and industry needs and providing technical assistance to local industry. Coordinates work with other instructional personnel (especially for the Wind Energy Technician and Environmental Technology programs) including enrollment management, recruiting, workforce training, purchasing, and other activities (see below).

Responsibilities:

(in order of importance/time)

1. Provide training from beginning to advanced mechanical and electrical systems operation and maintenance including but not limited to:

  • Fundamentals of electricity/electronics
  • AC/DC circuits
  • Electrical motors and generators
  • Motor controls and circuits
  • Mechanical drive systems
  • Industrial electricity
  • Electrical generation, transmission, and distribution
  • Programmable logic controllers (PLC's)
  • Data acquisition
  • Electrical schematics
  • Hydraulics

2. Provide safety training, including working at height and in confined spaces

3. Participate fully in institutional continuous improvement process

4. Recruit and advise students

5. Monitor student progress and retention

6. Participate in campus committees, faculty senate, and departmental meetings and activities including peer evaluation

7. Maintain current Idaho teacher certification and commit to ongoing professional development

8. Implement course-level and program-level outcomes assessment strategies

9. Continuously review and update curriculum, instructional schedule, and instructional technology with department chair and advisory committee

10. Collaborate with faculty

11. Maintain a training lab and activities that promote creative learning

12. Develop an annual plan for personal development

13. Assist with annual plan for unit (program) development and budget

14. Participate in advisory committee

15. Develop and cultivate positive relationship with industry

16. Review internship, cooperative education, and other work-based learning sites

17. Encourage students to participate in student organizations and other extracurricular activities

18. Troubleshoot problems with lab equipment

19. Act as a community resource and subject matter expert

20. Participate in grant activities and complete related reports and tracking as required

21. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in industrial mechanical and electrical systems, preferably with supervisory experience
  • Experience in renewable energy technology desired, but not required
  • Physical and mental ability to climb 250' enclosed wind turbine towers without assistance
  • Physical and mental ability to work in confined spaces
  • Desire to learn or continue to learn elements of renewable energy
  • Teacher credentialing requirements include a combination of work experience and education accumulating a minimum of 8 years recent, full-time employment/education.
  • Associate, Bachelors, or Masters degree in related field preferred, but not required (education level affects starting salary)
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to monitor budgets and complete paperwork in an efficient manner

  • Ability to foster respectful relationships with colleagues, administration, industry, and students
  • Ability to travel (current driver's license required)
  • Experience with online instruction is desired, but not required

Working Conditions:

  • Office, classroom, and instructional lab setting with occasional onsite industrial and wind energy facility training. Often working within very prescriptive safety parameters and at heights and confined spaces.

Physical Requirements:

Lifting/Carrying Up to 50 Pounds

Compensation: Minimum Salary $39,861-$43,364 Plus Competitive Benefits. Faculty Contract 189 days/10 Months
