The Renewable Natural Resources Foundation - a consortium of professional, scientific and educational organizations - advances sciences and public education in renewable natural resources; promotes the application of sound, scientific practices in managing and conserving renewable natural resources; and fosters cooperation among professional, scientific and educational organizations having leadership responsibilities for renewable natural resources.

Members of the consortium are: American Geophysical Union, American Meteorological Society, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Landscape Architects, American Water Resources Association, Geological Society of America, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Society of Wood Science and Technology, Universities Council on Water Resources.

Position Overview:

The Renewable Natural Resources Foundation (RNRF) seeks a Programs Manager to work with its staff and volunteer committees to develop and implement programs in conservation and natural resources policy. The position is an exciting opportunity for a resourceful person who wishes to work on current national issues.

Responsibilities:

The Programs Manager:

  • Serves as principal staff professional for developing, planning, and implementing approved programs. RNRF conducts a national conference of approximately 100-200 invited delegates in Washington, DC. Conference topics have included assessing: America's renewable energy options, impacts of emerging contaminants, threats to America's coastal resources, how to support federal science and engineering programs, and domestic human population growth impacts on natural resources. Other meetings include periodic round tables with DC-based policy leaders, NGO forums and congressional forums.
  • Administers national awards program.
  • Contributes to production of the quarterly Renewable Resources Journal by identifying topics, soliciting articles, and researching and writing news items.
  • Assists with production of RNRF's web site and services.
  • Assists with preparation of grant proposals in support of program goals.

Qualifications:

Interested candidates must possess a bachelor's degree. An advanced degree (M.S./M.A. or J.D.) is useful. Experience is a plus but not required. Excellent communication skills are a must. The Programs Manager reports to the Executive Director, and works out of the foundation's offices in Bethesda, Maryland.

Compensation: Salary range: $35,000 - $50,000.
