We are a small, family owned vegan distributor of packaged foods in the Northern California region. Our key account is the largest retail health food chain in the country. We've created an organization that is truly dedicated to servicing our customer's needs from the ground up. We provide warehousing, distribution, on the ground representation and merchandising for a highly discounted rate.

Our motivation isn't driven by economics but more so by ideology. Our philosophy is geared towards eco sustainability within the current paradigm of conventional business. While we like to feel that we work away from the box philosophy, we must also sometimes adopt business practices that allow us to progress economically.

We seek balance, however, lean more commonly towards the extreme. Our ultimate mission is to be the conduit for small manufacturers of vegan products. We aim to assist their growth and expand their brands while also leaving the smallest carbon footprint possible; this component is the most acrimonious to hurdle.

Position Overview:

Responsibilities:

Rather than working for one particular retail company; as retail sales merchandiser you'll be working with a distributor to interface with a number of different retail outlets that carry the manufacturer's merchandise. After a sales contract has been created, it is the responsibility of the retail sales merchandiser to provide service and maintain a good working relationship with retailers. The goal of retail sales merchandisers is to help both the retailer and the distributor maximize sales and increase sales volume. This goal is accomplished through execution, education, and promotion.

Execution:

As a merchandiser, you will be ensuring that a proper level of stock is maintained, and that the merchandise is displayed appropriately with proper signage and favorable shelf placement. This includes setup, plan-o-gram execution, as well as the stocking, fronting, facing, and rotating of the designated products. Audits will be performed regularly, and it is the responsibility of sales merchandiser to resolve issues that may arise as a result of these audits, and solve problems at the store level in order to maintain the standards established in the initial sales agreement.

Education:

Education and training is vital to the success of this position because store employees who have an awareness and appreciation of certain products are more likely to recommend them to customers. Maintaining a good rapport with employees at all levels is essential, and having effective communication with both employees and customers is critical to success.

Marketing Promotions:

There will be many promotions of various items throughout the year. People in this position will support the promotion by working with the stores and employees, securing preferred product placement, re-merchandise, place signage, and generate awareness and enthusiasm with employees prior to the launch of the promotion. Monitoring sales volume, inspecting inventory levels, and maintaining in-store promotional materials are key tasks throughout the promotional period

Reporting:

Retail or merchandising experience at the store level is preferred, but not always required to obtain this position as a retail sales merchandiser. This position required the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, multi-task, and problem solve, quickly and efficiently. Prior experience with maintaining customer relationships or client accounts is required. A demonstrated ability to influence decision-makers is considered a plus. The reporting methods require someone who is detail oriented and meticulous.

Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the constant handling of merchandise, merchandisers must be prepared to travel, drive, and engage in considerable physical activity. You will have to be willing and able to lift and move products in this job (40 lbs or less), and the use of proper safety practices and equipment will be essential.

Education Required:

College degree is often desired, but not required for retail sales merchandisers. Retailing, marketing, or business degrees are preferred, but other degrees or even a high school diploma will be just as acceptable with appropriate experience.

What You'll Need:

  • Good People Skills: you will need to cultivate good relationships with store staff and customers during your visits, so a patient, pleasant attitude and willingness to help is always a plus.
  • Initiative and Positive attitude: This will help you grow within the company as well as your income.
  • Ability to work on your own: AKA Personal Responsibility!
  • You will have to make sure you have all your paperwork and materials together, and that the work is done to the best of your ability. You also need to report and/or send all of the required documentation to the company completed in a timely manner, ie: BEFORE the stated deadline. Deadlines in merchandising must be strictly observed.
  • Good English Skills: brush up on your reading, writing and comprehension if you're rusty. Many vendors ask for detailed information regarding the store, associates, and other things you noticed during your store visit.
  • Digital or Cell Phone Camera: You may be required to take pictures of completed displays for the vendor. These are usually sent by email.

Must have a reliable mode of transportation.

Compensation: Depending on level of Industry experience

  • Entry Level Sales/Account Mgmt 33-37k
  • Entry Level Sales/Mgmt 42-48k

Plus vehicle allowance or company vehicle
