Description

The International Food and Agricultural Trade Policy Council is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to developing and advocating policies that support a more open, equitable and sustainable global food and agricultural system. The IPC was founded in 1987 as an independent group of leaders in food and agriculture from 20 industrialized and developing countries. Members include former government policymakers, farm leaders, agribusiness executives and leading academics.

Qualifications:

Direct International Policy Council Substantive Agenda:

  • Solid understanding of issues facing global food and agricultural system, including international trade negotiations, and economic development, and sustainability.
  • Ability to drive the IPC's substantive agenda and strategic work plan and to inject IPC policy ideas and recommendations into the public policy debate.

Represent International Policy Council to Stakeholders:

  • Experience interacting with diverse group of international private, public, media and civil society organizations;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Fundraising skills; demonstrated ability to secure both corporate and foundation grants

Provide Operational Leadership:

  • Ability to manage diverse international board of directors and membership from different countries and various backgrounds.
  • Ability to direct a diverse set of activities and manage small Secretariat office (Washington,DC), including financial management, fundraising, donor relations, public relations, and meeting planning;
  • An appreciation for different cultures of IPC members and capacity to mobilize the IPC membership - including the IPC Board and Committees - to work on behalf of the organization.

Additional Requirements:

  • Previous experience in international agriculture, trade, food and/or development policy issues, preferably in a variety of academic, government, trade association, and/or business roles;
  • Comfortable working in entrepreneurial environment with minimal supervision;
  • Proven ability to cooperate with other organizations on joint projects and events;
  • U.S.work permit highly desirable; Washington DC-based position
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally and domestically, about 30% of one's time;
  • Fluency in another language - in addition to English - would be a plus.

Compensation: Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
