Description

Under the supervision of the Washington Policy Manager, the Pacific Coast Project Coordinator will support and advance Surfrider Foundation's special places campaign for the outer coast of Washington State. The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Washington Policy Manager to achieve grant deliverables focused on enhancing the protection and restoration of coastal marine ecosystems.
  • Conduct outreach in communities along Washington's outer coast, working to educate and engage recreational users and others in coastal stewardship and management.
  • Represent Surfrider Foundation and non-consumptive recreational users on advisory boards/committees, at meetings, hearings and other events as necessary.
  • Coordinate with the Washington Field Coordinator in engaging Surfrider Foundation chapter volunteers in Pacific coast activities.
  • Collaborate with Washington Policy Manager, organizational partners, state agencies, tribes and coastal stakeholders in supporting a coastal Marine Spatial Planning process.
  • Participate in and support activities of the coastal Marine Resources Committees, including the coordination of subcommittees, planning events, and facilitating meetings.
  • Help organize the annual Marine Resources Committee summit.
  • Maintain Surfrider Foundation Pacific Coast blog and submit stories for local media.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or graduate degree (preferred) in environmental management, ocean policy, and/or marine science.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in marine or environmental issues.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple, complex tasks and to establish and regularly evaluate priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a broad range of people including the general public, agency professionals, elected officials, ocean users, coalition partners, and students of all age groups.
  • Proven ability to work independently and set and reach ambitious goals.
  • Proven success implementing, coordinating, and working with teams to advance numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel throughout coastal Washington and willingness to work a flexible schedule that will include occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ideal candidates will be located or willing to locate in western Washington, close to the Pacific coast.
