Position Overview: 

The Maintenance Supervisor will independently, and with foresight, monitor equipment and proactively maintain such equipment to ensure the plant is running at optimal capacity at all times. S/he will install, inspect, test, calibrate, adjust, and repair all chemical process equipment, instruments, control systems, and electronic and electrical plant equipment and systems according to knowledge of equipment operation and plant specifications. This position will also remove malfunctioning or obsolete equipment.

The Maintenance Supervisor will also develop a preventative maintenance program, and s/he must be knowledgeable of, and responsible for, complying with all safety and environmental requirements to the highest standards under federal and state law. This position will support ‘on call' as necessary 24 hours per day, every day of the year. Finally, this person must adhere to Greenleaf Biofuels' drug testing program (random, for cause and post accident.)

Responsibilities:

Detect, Diagnose & Repair Defects or Malfunctions:

  • Prepares and follows a schedule to ensure machinery is working within customary tolerances.
  • Detects and diagnoses mechanical defects or malfunctions for all equipment, included but not limited to: boilers, pumps, compressors, generators, reactors, heat exchangers, filters, grinders, absorbing towers, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, storage batteries, and electrical systems.
  • Repairs electrical, mechanical and pneumatic instruments and systems.
  • Searches for breakage or excessive wear, and replaces or repairs parts on a timely basis. 

Calibrate Control Devices & Maintain Spare Parts Inventory:

  • Calibrates, troubleshoots and repairs plant instrumentation, including but not limited to transmitters, analyzers, control valves, switches, and relays.
  • Adjusts clearance and timing of control devices to specifications, using pliers, screwdriver, wrenches and other tools.
  • Attains precise set limits, tolerances and standards, adhering to and achieving exact levels of performance output.
  • Maintains inventory of spare parts, supplies and equipment.

Install New Equipment / Remove Old Equipment:

  • Verifies dimensions of in-coming parts using calipers, micrometers, scales, etc. to ensure that such parts will be the proper replacement if a repair is needed.
  • Installs new equipment or modifies existing installations following blueprints and the technical advice of engineers.
  • Removes generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries as needed.
  • Disassembles equipment using hand tools and/or portable power tools as needed. 

Reporting:

  • Maintains files, logs and drawings for all designated instrumentation and electrical equipment.
  • Documents maintenance, calibration, installation, fault diagnosis, and repair of electrical, mechanical and pneumatic instruments and systems.
  • Maintains written inventory of spare parts, supplies and equipment.
  • Prepares Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as related to the position.
  • Provides verbal or written reports to the Plant Manager as required.

Design, Develop & Implement Maintenance Procedures:

  • Directs Shift Supervisor regarding how to perform simple tasks, such as dismantling and assembling equipment, in his/her absence.
  • Advises and trains Supervisors regarding policies, methods, procedures, standards and objectives to ensure high productivity. 

Nonessential Functions:

  • Support engineering efforts by participating in design development projects.
  • Handles various projects and activities as requested.

Qualifications: 

  • Highschool diploma or GED. Graduate of accredited Instrument or Electrical Technician program.
  • 2-5 years experience. 3+ years experience in a biodiesel, oil and gas, petrochemical, or a related industry.

Success Factors / Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Is able to solve problems, make evaluations, and determine conclusions based on subjective or objective criteria, such as knowledge, past experiences, or quantifiable or factual data.
  • Is able to handle problems that have few concrete variables and may not be in a standardized form.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve under pressure/deadlines.
  • Experience with developing/documenting procedures.
  • Has a valid S-1 or OE-2 Boiler's License.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, quality control applications, and analytical machines, equipment, and tools.
  • Able to work with a wide variety of instruments including pH, conductivity, ultrasonic, guided wave, radar, mass flow, pressure transducers, and RTDs.
  • Thorough understanding of general safety requirements.
  • Respond to normal hazards and take appropriate precautions.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • An understanding of EPA, DOT, OSHA, and state regulations commonly associated with a biodiesel manufacturing facility.
  • A valid driver's license and a TWIC card (TWIC can be obtained after employment).
  • Successfully passing a drug test and adhering to drug testing program (random, for cause and post accident).
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, or in a diagrammatic manner.
  • Adhere to standards of neatness and cleanliness.
  • Is able to handle frequent changes involving tasks with different aptitudes, technologies, techniques, procedures, working conditions, physical demands, and degrees of attentiveness while maintaining efficiency and composure. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Kneeling, stooping, bending, sitting, walking extensively and use of computer.
  • Climbing up to 65 ft.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outside in various climates and conditions.
  • Ability to manage contact/exposure to chemicals ordinarily found in a biodiesel facility.
