Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the identification and ongoing development of new business opportunities within the Solar Photovoltaic market.
  • Knowledge of global market conditions, growth forecasts, competitive landscape.
  • Perform research and analysis for use in business sizing process and/or product, market, or operations strategies.
  • Build and cultivate strong external and internal relationships. External includes potential customers, partners, consultants, the investment community. Internal includes Applied Ventures, Corporate Business Development, Corporate Marketing, Engineering, Technology Development.
  • Drive new business opportunities, partnerships, due diligence, and ultimately, close deals.
  • Able to travel approximately 25% of the time, including internationally.

Qualifications:

Specific Knowledge:

  • Industry: Solar Photovoltaics, across the value chain from materials to manufacturing to installation.
  • Knowledge of industry dynamics including incentives, cost reduction issues, technology roadmap, and challenges.
  • Versed in energy generation dynamics and grid-level considerations around renewables.
  • Interaction: Interaction with customers and peer group managers concerning project deliverables. Also interact with external stakeholders and partners to explore and develop new business opportunities. Requires ability to influence others outside of area managed.
  • Complexity/Creativity: Able to solve problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Being creative in thinking through new business models, identifying challenges, pitfalls, and opportunities when evaluating new opportunities.
  • Impact: Erroneous decisions or recommendations could result in serious delays to projects, causing considerable expenditure of time and funds. Good, well-thought-out and supported recommendations on new business opportunities can lead to significant financial and/or strategic upside for the company.
  • Knowledge: Requires functional expertise, knowledge of multiple functions, broad company knowledge and additional industry or business knowledge.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, develop, and close new business opportunities
  • Experience creating financial and forecast models for new market opportunities
  • Creative problem solving and project management
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, strong presentation and writing skills
  • Customer orientation, global business perspective and personal effectiveness
  • Prior business experience working directly in or indirectly with partners in China is a plus, though the role is global in nature (with no specific geographic focus).
  • Prior experience in capital equipment / manufacturing a plus
  • Prior experience in investments / venture capital a plus
  • Other: Detail oriented, data analysis, ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus, ability to effectively manage relationships, negotiation skills, effective under high pressure situations, willing to go the extra mile.

Education and Work Experience:

  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent (minimum). MBA or MS in related discipline (strongly preferred).
  • 7+ years of related experience
