Position Overview:

Wirsol Solar Americas is seeking a System Design Engineer to design and engineer its solar projects throughout the United States. Ideal candidates are experienced, highly motivated, self-directed, precise, and have excellent communication skills.

Led by some of the most experienced professionals in the solar industry, Wirsol Solar has been developing and building solar power projects - from residential housing to industrial rooftops to large-scale solar parks - since 2002. Responsibilities:

The PV System Design Engineer will perform or oversee the following:

  • Perform enhanced PV array performance estimation and modeling using existing software and meteorological data
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of potential photovoltaic plant locations, including site surveys and client meetings
  • Provide recommendations for system optimization including site layout, technical design concepts, and equipment specifications.
  • Work with Sales personnel to integrate client requests, where technically feasible, into the PV system design
  • Create highly detailed construction-ready plan sets for roof-mounted and ground-mounted PV systems, including, but not limited to: plant drawings, layouts, one line electrical diagrams, and associated project documentation
  • Work with Structural and Electrical engineers to execute code-compliant designs and plan sets
  • Provide accurate project budgets, with precise accounting for all system components, labor and services
  • Work with in-house project managers to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with the National Electric Code, National Fire Code, International Building Codes and/or IEEE standards
  • Interface with clients, construction managers and outside contractors prior to and during project construction
  • Work with utility companies and utility engineers to seamlessly integrate energy systems to the grid
  • Perform detailed system commissioning and provide in-depth project commissioning documentation
  • Participate in project evaluations and assessment of results

Qualifications: 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited Engineering program (ME, AE, or EE)
  • 3+ years professional experience engineering and designing PV Systems
  • 5+ years professional experience in the field of Electrical Engineering
  • Understanding of International Building Codes and/or IEEE standards
  • Strong knowledge of energy conversion systems and technologies
  • Knowledge of PV Module Support Structure design, module array lay-out
  • Extensive knowledge of output, performance and reliability factors of various commercially available PV modules and inverters
  • Knowledge of power distribution and transmission systems design is a plus
  • Proficiency in system(s) modeling and energy production modeling software, including AutoCAD and PVSyst
  • Aptitude to be a successful project / team manager utilizing proven management technique

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • NABCEP certification
  • Experience designing, engineering and overseeing the construction of commercial rooftop PV projects, with an understanding of local permitting and interconnection requirements in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions
  • Ability to interface with a broad spectrum of individuals with varying degrees of technical knowledge, and to communicate effectively and proactively
  • Self-directed, with strong attention to detail, and excellent time management skills
  • High degree of responsiveness to internal and external inquiries, with a willingness to take on increased responsibility
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to effectively work in parallel with others as well as independently
  • Timeliness and accuracy of all deliverables
  • Must convey maturity, experience, and confidence
