Position Overview:

Supports Senior Fellow with research relating to issues of international climate and energy policy and development; helps obtain, manage, organize, and analyze large datasets on climate change; assists with outreach activities; and provides administrative assistance as needed.

Responsibilities:

80% Research:

  • Conducts empirical research and policy analysis on topics related to climate change, energy policy and green growth, climate adaptation and resilience, climate financing, and innovation and technology.
  • Collects and analyzes empirical and analytical information; monitors and analyzes relevant material from conferences and seminars, academic journals, and reports from a wide variety of sources, including development organizations and NGOs.
  • Collects, assembles, and maintains datasets for quantitative analysis within STATA and Excel.
  • Conducts quantitative data analysis utilizing econometric and other statistical tools; compiles and organizes large datasets; writes code in STATA to operationalize analysis methodologies; and presents the results of empirical analysis in table and graphical formats to complement published material and into PowerPoint slides.
  • Writes background policy and research summary notes and reports, occasional media summaries, and briefing memos; reports on forums, symposia, and conferences; compiles abstracts, summaries, and analyses of journals, abstracts, books, and news articles.
  • Reviews and updates existing data and footnotes; helps with editing and proofreading of publications.
  • Attends conferences and seminars as needed and prepares summaries.

20% General Assistance:

  • Contributes to grant-writing activities, in coordination with Program staff and Fellows.
  • Assists with the organization of meetings and conferences, in collaboration with Program staff.
  • Works with Website Coordinator to oversee content of project-specific web pages and publications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience Requirements:

Master's degree in social sciences areas (environmental and natural resources economics or related fields, including inter-disciplinary studies) with a minimum of 1-2 years of research experience required. Experience working with multilaterals, governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on international climate issues is highly desirable. Experience handling large datasets and knowledge of SAS, STATA, and related econometric packages preferred. Strong proficiency in Excel required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Competence to undertake research assignments with minimal supervision.

Knowledge Requirements:

Knowledge of international climate policy and renewable and sustainable energy issues desirable. Strong computer skills and experience required. Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced work environment. Professional demeanor and high level of comfort working with high-profile individuals from government/international organizations. Ability to work well under pressure with discretion and mature judgment. Team player and fast learner preferred.

Compensation: low to mid 40s (salary level 5/6)
