Description

NegaWatt Consulting is a small business providing professional services in the scope of energy, technology and sustainability. Our services primarily concern building systems and building technology; occasionally we venture into areas such as climate change, IT or education. Google us for more.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a project engineer to help with our current workload. This is a non-exempt part-time position that may develop into full time if you are a good fit and if we have enough work. Our most pressing need is in the area of emerging technology evaluation. In this scope, we review and report on leading edge energy- and demand-saving building technologies for a large client with high expectations. We also perform residential and commercial energy audits, building modeling for architects, LEED consulting, and a variety of other services typical for energy consultants. Most projects include some degree of field work, ranging from on-site interviews to the execution of detailed M&V plans with commercial power test equipment.

Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include, at first, to directly assist our principal with day-by-day tasks, including occasional field work (training will be provided). As you gain a better understanding of what we do and how we do it, you will be assigned more and more complex action items, including direct contributions to our client deliverables. These may include calculations, spreadsheets, charts, reports, M&V plans, etc. This position provides a fantastic opportunity to learn about leading edge technologies in residential and commercial settings, and about energy in California in general. We feel it's one of the coolest such jobs in town.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 1 of the following 4:
(i)Undergraduate degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
(ii)PE certification in a related field
    (iii)CEM certification
(iv)1 year full-time work experience in an energy-related engineering, consulting or equivalent position (contractor or installer experience NOT sufficient)
  • Research or Consulting experience: our clients hold us to high standards of scientific rigor. Please have papers, publications, thesis, research reports, etc. ready to share.
  • Strongly preferred: previous work or internship experience in an energy-related firm or organization such as CCSE, SDG&E, Sempra, Kema, PECI, etc.
  • The successful candidate must pass a background check (a lot of what we do is confidential)
  • English fluency comparable to a native speaker
  • Good organizational skills and initiative, ability and willingness to work independently
  • Valid CA driver's license, a clean driving record, and reliable transportation
  • Excellent references
  • Students OK, as long as you are available at least 3 full days each week.
  • Availability to start in October

Compensation: Compensation consists of a base hourly pay of $16-$30/hr (commensurate with experience), plus a deferred share of the revenue that you generate for our company in excess of your base hourly pay. The maximum gross income potential for this position is up to $80,000/year. Your actual gross income will be proportional to how much work we have for you, to how much of your work we can bill back to our clients, and to the hourly rate(s) at which we can bill your time. Expect 10-15h/week at first, fast increasing if your skills fit in well.

To Apply:

If interested, please email us your detailed RESUME, and a paper or 2 that you have authored. Don't worry about a cover letter... we feel they are overrated.
