Green Mechanical Engineer: Energy Efficient Lighting Product

Position Overview:

Be part of the expansion of our Solid State Lighting program. Engage in cutting edge development on innovative products, applications and interfaces. Work with the best and most talented engineers and scientists in the world in our state of the art facilities.

You will be part of the green revolution, working on incandescent and tungsten halogen replacements and street lighting replacements that will significantly reduce consumer engergy consumption. You will also be working on consumer luminaires including table lamps, wall sconces, pendants and ceiling suspended lights.

The successful candidate will focus on the mechanical design aspects of our Solid State Lighting systems: lamps and luminaires. The work will involve a variety of plastics, glass, metals and alloys. Candidate will work with a high level of technical creativity and independence to solve unique and complex technical problems. Candidate will be a key project contributor and a project leader with accountability for specific project results.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

• Design mechanical components of solid state lighting lamps and luminaires with a constant focus on manufacturability of design under the considerations of high volume manufacturing
• Thermally analyze heat transfer from LED source to ambient for optimal heat sink design
• Identify soft and hard tooling suppliers, conduct tooling feasibility study and cost analysis
• Work with mechanical tooling suppliers to optimize tooling for production including injection molding, die casting, extrusion, blow molding and stamping etc
• Perform product design and development activities with a high degree of independence and creativity
• Generate engineering documentation e.g. specification, schematics, layouts, BOM and qualification reports
• Work with Production team to develop the LED lamp assembly process and provide technical support to set up production lines
• Work with Quality team to conduct design verification testing and qualification testing to qualify the design and production parts
• Work with suppliers and production team to develop cost reduction solutions and execute design changes in production

Qualifications:

This is a senior level position.

• A minimum BS+7 or MS+2 years of hands-on mechanical engineering design of products involving injection molded plastic, die-cast, sheet metal and glass parts is required.
