Description
The Wildlife Conservation Society, a NY-based international NGO, seeks an Assistant Director to help lead, manage, and administer our Latin American and Caribbean Program. WCS has active conservation programs in 14 countries in the region, from Guatemala in the north to Tierra del Fuego in Chile and Argentina in the south.
Position Overview:
The Assistant Director will work with the Director, and other staff in New York and across the region, to ensure strong programmatic vision and structure, sustainable funding, and strong relations with donors, colleagues, and government agencies. The Assistant Director reports to the Director and is based at the Bronx Zoo.
Responsibilities:
- line-manage country directors;
- participate in LACP country strategic planning and approve implementation plans and budgets;
- prepare or revise fundraising applications and reports;
- visit programs to evaluate performance and provide advice;
- represent the program externally and internally; help ensure that programs remain within budget.
Qualifications:
The job requires 2-3 months travel a year. Key qualifications include:
- a relevant advanced degree,
- several years of field project management experience,
- fundraising and administrative experience,
- knowledge of and commitment to conservation in the region,
- excellent spoken and written Spanish, and fluency in Portuguese a plus.
