Position Overview:
Starwood is seeking a Director of Environmental Sustainability to join the company's newly formed Global Citizenship team - a small group of professionals centrally supporting Starwood's Corporate Social Responsibility efforts on a global level. The team's primary responsibility is to serve and support the field in achieving Starwood's environmental goals.
At both the strategic and tactical level, this role is responsible for leading the evolution of Starwood's Environmental strategy, policies and programs. This individual will serve as Starwood's primary subject matter expert on all aspects of environmental sustainability and support the field by delivering practical, relevant and timely environmental tools and insights
Responsibilities:
Evolve Environmental Sustainability Strategy Addressing Existing Operations, New Construction/Renovation Projects and Corporate Office Programming as well as Supply Chain Management
Lead collective effort to mine Starwood's existing environmental accomplishments for best practices and otherwise source for next generation environmental technologies and innovations. Foundation of all recommendations starts with an eye for ROI and effective ops implementation.
Lead development process as well as directly manage creation of programs and tools that enable the field and corporate offices to execute our environmental initiatives and deliver on Starwood's Environmental Goals.
Drive process to vet efficacy and articulate benefits of all existing and proposed initiatives thus informing multi-million dollar investment decisions.
Lead strategy development process and program development that will inform increasingly responsible supply chain management. Guide Strategic Environmental Partnerships, Stakeholder Engagement and Internal Collaboration
Coach staff of high performing individuals toward even greater efficiency and influencing abilities.
Maintain and develop existing and new NGO /Industry/Environmental Consultant relationships.
Create and deliver presentations, and exercise refined influencing and diplomacy skills, to garner senior level and developer understanding and support of environmental work.
Develop action plans that will drive a broad group of both internal and external stakeholders toward achieving Starwood's environmental goals. Stakeholders include Starwood leadership, 200,000+ owned, managed and franchised Starwood associates, owners, developers and investors.
Aim is to secure early buy-in and continuous commitment to Environmental Sustainability efforts.
Coordinate with industry peers to move the most impactful projects and influence policy as appropriate.
Collaborate with team to develop Starwood hotel benchmarking strategy.
Collaborate with team to develop public & guest facing communications and platform.
Lead Development of Environmental Goals, Metrics Collection Process, Reporting & Performance Management
- Lead Process to expand on current environmental commitments.
- Develop business cases for environmental initiatives which compel and drive decision-makers toward action.
- Ensure accuracy and timely reporting of all third party data requests.
- Collaborate in the development of company annual sustainability report as well as response to all third party inquiries about our Environmental Sustainability efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Environmental Studies or related field. Masters degree preferred.
- 7+ years of related professional experience, preferably within hospitality or consumer brands, with strong results orientation with a track record of meeting deadlines and delivering on goals.
- Experience should demonstrate mastery of environmental policy/strategy.
- Proven ability to deliver presentations to audiences of all levels from internal to external senior leaders to hotel line staff.
- Strong influencing and persuasive story telling ability desired.
- Team leadership experience required.
- Experience leading complex, multinational, cross-functional strategy & project teams required.
- Creative thinking and flexibility essential.
- Strong analytical skills required.
- Demonstrated experience in developing recommendations and strategic business solutions based on solid analysis required.
- Strong project management skills required.
- Six Sigma background preferred.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- GRI or other third party reporting experience preferred.
- Must have ability to build relationships and work collaboratively.
- Excellent project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills required.
