The Long Island Progressive Coalition (LIPC) is a 32-year old Island-wide, grassroots, community-based organization dedicated to building social, economic and racial justice.

Power Up Communities is a new LIPC campaign that delivers the promise of a new green economy for ALL of our communities. We are actively committed to this campaign by working to weatherize homes, making them more energy efficient and saving homeowners' money, while helping our environment. The contractors who do the weatherization work have agreed to hire local workers and pay them a family supporting union wage, thus creating green pathways out of poverty. Position Overview:

We are seeking a Project Coordinator to oversee the campaign and overall success of project. This person will be working with contractors, elected officials, press, funders, community based organizations and congregations. There is a team of community organizers which the Project Coordinator will train and supervise.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to social, economic and racial justice
  • Experience in leading a team and project management
  • Experience in working in communities of color
  • Ability and experience training and supervising staff
  • Experience in community organizing
  • Proven experience writing articles and grants
  • Designing printed materials including flyers, brochures, and newsletters.
  • Ability to travel, including having a reliable car
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends; and
  • Effective public speaking skills.
