Position Overview:

The Chief Technology Officer for Solar is responsible for all activities related to the Solar technology roadmap and Research & Development programs. The Solar CTO will provide industry level insight and vision on technology trends and collaborate with other top executives to technologically plan, utilize, and apply the company's competitive advantages to further revenue growth.

In addition, this position will be the forefront advocate for the company's technology, both internally and externally, including strategic partners, customers and analysts. The position is responsible for the scientific direction of the business unit to seek out and evaluate new technology, conduct feasibility testing and proof of concept experiments, oversee the product development process in conjunction with the business unit leader and lead the business units growth in technical and scientific knowledge building.

The Solar CTO will forge research and industry contacts and relationships, work for the benefit of the company in developing and serving on standards governing bodies, present and write white papers, technical articles and will promote the company to the technical community.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technology and development vision for the solar business unit focused on new technologies, industry trends, the solar value chain and new product opportunities.
  • Develop or analyze new production technologies and opportunities. Accountability for the solar technology roadmap and identifying/defining opportunities to expand the product portfolio and/or enter new segments.
  • Initiate and lead Research & Development projects and development programs. Commercialize lab technologies into volume production.
  • Provide technical support to other business functions of the company
  • Formulate and lead research, conceptualization & early stage design of potential next generation products and technologies, to maintain the organizations competitive position and profitability.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • MS in a scientific or engineering discipline

Preferred:

  • PhD in a scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience.

Work Experience:

Minimum

  • 3+ years related experience in a CSi manufacturing environment or solar capital equipment
  • 10+ years senior level related experience within solar or semiconductor manufacturing to include integrated line, process, equipment expertise, and demonstrated ability to lead and drive technology results at the senior executive level.
  • Working knowledge of solar cell processes and manufacturing technologies
  • Global experience preferably Asia

Technical Competencies:

Minimum

  • Solid analytic skills, coupled with a strong understanding of businesses concepts
  • Strong Technical Writing
  • Superior Communications style (verbal, written, negotiating, listening)
  • Solar sciences/process knowledge
