The North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy (NCCC) seeks a dynamic, energetic, and highly motivated leader to fill the position of Executive Director (ED).
NCCC is a citizen-created nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides a structured, dedicated framework for constructive citizen involvement in conserving and enhancing the significant natural, cultural, and recreational resources within and near the 120-square mile North Chickamauga Creek watershed.
The Conservancy's work is supported through a combination of grants from local and national foundations and contributions and volunteer services from supportive individuals, companies, and organizations. It pursues its initiatives through the work of its committees and works in partnership with other organizations and governmental entities to accomplish common conservation goals.
Responsibilities:
The ED's primary duties will be to raise and allocate funds to meet programmatic and organizational goals, grow NCCC's budget and financial reserves, communicate with donors, develop grant proposals, maintain foundation relations, manage and develop NCCC's land acquisition and conservation projects, and be spokesperson and liaison with public sector agencies, government representatives, foundations, community and partner organizations and businesses.
Special consideration will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to environmental protection, trail development, and/or conservation land acquisition issues. Candidates should have a distinguished record in leading organizations and working effectively with staff, boards, and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
The ideal applicant will have:
- A working familiarity with the Chattanooga region, the North Chickamauga Creek watershed specifically, and regional conservation projects including the Cumberland Trail State Scenic Trail and the Greater Chattanooga Area Greenways System.
- Extensive experience in leading and cultivating donors, volunteers, staff and organizations, which may be gained through a combination of professional experience and education.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, an understanding of the collaborative nature of NCCC's work, knowledge of fundraising and development, and experience working within the non-profit sector.
- Ability to analyze and resolve issues quickly and make good decisions in a collaborative culture.
- Proven project management skills and demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and direct board members, staff and NCCC's broad base of volunteers.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to consistently, effectively, and tactfully communicate with people at many levels.
- Substantiated record of successful fund raising from a variety of sources, including but not limited to corporate, government, foundation, direct mail, major donor campaigns and events.
- Land conservation, leading volunteer based organization(s) and local policy experience is desirable.
- Computer proficiency especially in using of Microsoft Office applications required.
- B.A./B.S. required; advanced degree highly desirable.
Compensation: $30,000 annually, partial reimbursement of medical benefits is negotiable.
