Energy Systems Division:

No single solution to national and global energy demands exists today-nor will it in the future. Instead, Logos' Energy Systems Division advocates for advanced, environmentally responsible solutions that are appropriate to particular needs-from nuclear to "green" solutions-for a broad range of issues.

We perform energy analysis and systems studies and serve as a resource for the Department of Energy (DOE) and its Nuclear Energy Division, Department of Defense (DOD), Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Sandia National Laboratories, National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA), and commercial clients. We are developing capabilities in nuclear energy (advanced fission reactors, fission-fusion hybrids, fusion), biofuels, and other renewables.

Position Overview:

The Group Director of the Biofuels and Renewable Energy Group, reporting to the Energy Systems Division Director, is responsible for leading and managing all Logos renewable-energy programs so that customer expectations, technical-performance metrics, and company goals are addressed with a focus on transition to the commercial sector. 

The Group Director serves as the principal Logos scientific and technical resource for renewable energy and as the leader of the renewable-energy staff. The Group Director is responsible for growing the renewable-energy portfolio and for transitioning government-funded programs to a successful commercial enterprise. Finally, the Group Director is a prime candidate to lead a commercial renewable-energy spinoff if that Logos goal is viable.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees work products to ensure they are scientifically/technically accurate and that they meet the specifications and milestones in each contract.
  • Communicates both verbally and through documentation with existing clients to ensure that their performance expectations are being met and to explore areas of new business opportunity.
  • With the Energy Systems Division Director, develops a proposal strategy and serves as "Capture Manager" coordinating and directing all resources in writing, packaging, and pricing a winning proposal.
  • Works as an integral part of the senior management team to increase the revenue derived from the renewable energy and biofuels business and to enhance the reputation of Logos.
  • Coordinates the hiring of new employees to ensure the standards of technical excellence are being met to satisfy both current and future business needs in the renewable energy area.
  • Ensures that current staff is afforded the opportunity to maintain "state of the art" expertise by attending seminars, conferences and publishing in referred journals and other professional development opportunities.
  • Directs the management of and mentors staff to ensure they are appropriately aligned with challenging work, obtain regular feedback on their work, are recognized for personal achievements, and receive on-going opportunities for professional development.
  • Depending upon work location, estimated 25% - 50% domestic travel is required.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as appropriate or as required.

Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, chemistry, biology or related field or experience.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of directly related experience with both business and technical expertise in petroleum, chemical, biofuel, renewable energy or related field(s),
  • Successful as a Principal Investigator/Program Manager for research and development programs in related fields for programs in the $50M category. This can include both contract research and internal corporate research.
  • Understanding of federal contracting is very desirable, as is successful experience in federal proposal writing. Knowledge of the DOE, DoD, USDA, DOT is helpful.
  • Demonstrated success in taking technology from concept to commercial viability. An applicant that has successfully built a company and run and managed the firm to commercial viability is desirable.
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to renewable energy and biofuels.
  • An extensive exposure to and familiarity with the renewable energy community.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in technical, business and management contexts, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to capture new business in renewable energy and biofuels.
